I'm trying to read it but it's pretty bad. I don't get the point of Joffrey in this story. In canon he's one of the most despicable characters, no one would deny that, so I'm not really seeing the point of trying to make him worse... it doesn't really add anything to the story except for any arbitrary set of drama. The story would be almost exactly the same if it didn't exist.

Any good Sansa centric stories? I'm strangely fond of the character.

I'd completely forgotten about this story. I read the prologue a while back, when it was first posted. I think they would have done better not having that particular scene as the prologue though, unless the bulk of the story is to come after her marriage to Jon. It dampens all the dramatic suspense from the various men attempting to court her and wed her.

Have to agree with Cxjenious here, a bit anticlimactic that we know how the pursuit and courting here ends. And while it's fairly obvious that Trystane's a shady, fucked up cunt, what with
    killing Myrcella and Arianne
You have to still wonder what the hell he wants with Sansa Stark? And what causes her to reject him and choose Jon instead? So yeah, there's stuff to be read about, and while I'm not all that fond of court intrigue (Maegor had the right way of going about it) it is a good read, entertaining somewhat.

The King's Man: And when Eddard Stark arrives in King's Landing with his sister's body and his sister's son, he doesn't quite know where to go next; and when Robert asks him to stay he says yes, and Ned trades in the cold vastness of the North for a new life and a white cloak, and life goes on.

Brandon marries Cat and never dies, and so Ned ends up in the Kingsguard. Clocking in at a little more than 4k words, it's a very good oneshot.

I find it weird that if the story is formatted in such short scenes I dislike it most of the time, but if it's a oneshot, I like the approach.

Perhaps because I always expect different.

    It's not a oneshot, though.
Then again, if a second part is no longer than the first chapter, it's alright.

Overall, I liked it quite a lot even if the scene where Jamie was drunk over some event went a bit over my head. Is this about his incest with the queen, or something else I missed? The date, as Ned puts it is a year before Joffrey's birth - not nine months - unless I read that wrong.

    What have I forgotten?

    It drives me nuts.

Are there any new good non-angsty stories? I was reading Our Choices Seal Our Fate and seeing the Jon in that story made me want anyone who could be happy without moaning about how terrible everything is.

So anyways Our Choices updated. It just went from possibly its best chapter, to quite literally it's worst. Impressive performance.

You mean Our Choices Seal Our Fate?

If so, why do you think this chapter is so bad? I thought it was quite good. It is finally getting away from canon rehashing.

I will shamelessly put forth my own fic, A Song of Sovngarde. It's only two chapters in at the moment.

Can't say I'm a fan of it, or at least of what you got now.

Primarily because of how this just fucks with the overall balance of the setting (yes, yes, I know it was never good to start with, but you get the gist) with the introduction of the Nords and all the mythical/supernatural stuff that accompanies them. Maybe later, when you have more than just those two chapters, I'll find it more palatable, but right now, it just seems like a mess.

Ignoring the perceived imbalances, because I've already considered those, and made changes to the setting accordingly, what do you think of it?

    It's good for a (TES) fic that's Nord-centric.

As an ASOIAF fic? Can't really say much, because you haven't shown us anything yet.

Not doubting you to get the tone right later on, you certainly did for TBP.

It's more than just a clash of cultures and military strength that you're supposed to describe. I can't really say much about it because I feel like there's a critical part missing and right now all I perceive is a jumbled up mess and Nord names and Nord words and phrases thrown about in a place where they just feel so odd.

Also, the sex scene just appeared out of nowhere. Doing Martin proud, all you needed is Asha moaning out "Damn you!"

You mean besides the childish angst and wtf decisions Jon made in sending away the dragons and jerking off every member of the stark family one by one?

I do not think that dragons are quite big enough for another Field of Fire against Lannisters and their training and making sure they do not damage Jon´s own army is important. Jon is also obsessed with Starks and Ned´s and Thoros´ version of honor.

I think Choices have best played Game from Tywin and Lannisters in entire fanfiction that I have read. He practically did nothing overt and yet he killed king, his heir, his lover, shown current king as incompetent, opened way for Joffrey to the throne, set Reach and Dorne against each other, destroyed Starks in their area of influence (the North) and he has yet to bleed his own army. I honestly do not think he can lose when his last obstacle is pretty good general but frankly an incompetent diplomat and plotter obsessed with bastardized Arryn version of "honor".

Someone talented should write an AU in which Eddard Stark & co reach the Tower of Joy after his sister has given birth and find nothing except a gravemarker with Lyanna's cremated remains. Jon is thus raised in exile by the remaining members of his Kingsguard, while Eddard and Robert remain ignorant of his existence until Eddard is made Hand of the King.

I can't get this idea out of my head but I am worthless when it comes to writing fiction :(
