Do we know in which Hogwarts year the Marauders and Snape were when Snape was nearly bitten by Lupin?

I thought it was in their sixth year.

Isn't fifth year when James & Sirius becomes animagus? Snape was apparently almost bitten in their early school career.

    Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 18.

Yes, they become animagi in their fifth year, and I do think the prank happened before that.

Did the muggleborns grew afraid of the name 'Voldemort'? I mean is there an instance in books 5-6 (7 includes the whole taboo thing so it does not count) where there is any muggleborn making comments regarding Voldemort using his name?

I'm pretty sure Hermione saying it in the Fifth Book (while trying to convince Harry to start the DA) was specifically referenced as the first time she said it.

Not sure if this is the right thread exactly, but wouldn't adult Mandrakes have made effective weapons? Here's an idea - apply a Cushioning Charm to a Mandrake, encase them in a fragile silenced container, and use them on a trebuchet or the magical equivalent to hit a bunch of Death Eaters. (Say during the Siege of Hogwarts, when a bunch of Death Eaters amass in front)

The container breaks open, the silencing charm is gone, the mandrake survives, it cries, a bunch of Death Eaters instantly die. Rinse, repeat. Even baby Mandrakes would be useful to at least knock out whole bunches of them hours at a time.

For removal purposes, you could have them tossed alongside bombs designed to go off 15 seconds after impact. That way you wouldn't have to risk death or unconsciousness removing the mandrakes later in the field.

(A Sonorused Mandrake would be pretty effective to clear out locations, if you're willing to risk collateral damage)

About the mandrakes. I believe that considering what magic probably is capable of the ones being attacked by flying projectiles would already be wary enough to take no risks and thus try to destroy them.

    Easier way.

    1) Put on earmuffs.
    2) Apparate to Death Eaters.
    3) Release Mandrake.
    4) Laugh.

I think it was in Chapter Fifteen of OotP when Hermione used 'Voldemort' to convince Harry to make the DA. She stuttered, though. Maybe she used 'You-Know-Who' out of politeness in the beginning, when she was a first year, but she certainly seemed to fear using his name by her fifth.

Harry described it best, why the muggleborns fear Voldemort's name. JKR was pretty plain.
    PS: Chapter Six
    Edit:
    Ahem.
    DH: Chapter Thirty-One

I've never understood why Harry seriously believes in Dumbledore as much as he does...he had, what, two or three conversations a year with the old fart from the ages of eleven to fifteen, maybe a dozen serious discussions in the final year? And that's enough to make him Dumbledore's Man?

"Because if taken in excess, it causes giddiness, recklessness, and
dangerous overconfidence," said Slughorn. "Too much of a good
thing, you know … highly toxic in large quantities. But taken
    sparingly, and very occasionally …"

Taken from HP and the Half Blood Prince chapter 15 "Felix Felicis"

Is there any indication of what exactly is "large quantities"? Could I take a 12 hour dose, sleep for the next 12 hours, and repeat forever? The other side effects seem completely harmless, considering the potion makes you the luckiest man on earth for the duration of the potion.

    Thanks for the info!
