I actually completely forgot about his, thanks for reminding me. That brings the total up to two readable stories.

If you like Virtual Reality MMO game stories then Legendary Moonlight Sculptor is probably the best in the genre. I absolutely recommend it.

Then you get to his Lash in the second chapter or so and it drops back down to one

Probably should give Jon's fic another go. When I first tried it, couldn't get into it at all, dropping it a whole 2-3 chapters in. However, I've never seen Highschool DxD and that was the second fic I tried in the fandom, so there's a good chance I was missing out on a lot back then.

I just found myself bored at Harry Dresden, and his interactions with everyone around him. Being younger, he didn't have the fun internal narrative or banter Dresden usually has.

I do vaguely remember reading GB's fic, but cant' for the life of me remember how it went. I really should give it another go too.

If you've read GB's Monster Girl Quest fic, his DxD fic is basically that but with Dresden instead of Shirou and a bit more serious tone.

    Only a very slight bit.

If his is a one, then dad and dlh is like a -40.

I was speaking of readable stories; Debt of a Sword is some good shit.

I couldn't make it through more than three or so chapters of his DXD fic and I got all the way through the climax of DLH. Granted, part of that was being told it was good by the lying liars who lie here, but GB's Lash is quite possibly the worst I've ever read

All three are bad. Beyond the Outer Gates is just bad because the characterization of Dresden and Lash is horrible and OoC.

Beyond the Outer Gates was readable like everything made by gabriel blessing but I do also agree with Probellum that the characterization sucked. Gabriel blessing's writing isn't really suitable for Dresden Files, or even any other wisecracking smartass.

It's kinda like Ryuugi's long introspective monologues. I'm cool with it, but not everything is suitable for it.

For all you Familiar of Zero fags. I only have some cursory knowledge of FoZ, but the premise of this fic is similar enough to the legendary He Who Fights Monsters (i.e. deconstruction of a light-hearted anime by applying its premises in a brutally logical and grimdark way), that I think I'll try reading it anyway.

P.S. If you haven't read He Who Fights Monsters, drop everything and go read it. It's utterly brilliant - and the only fic I've ever read, despite not read/watched the original story.

Enslaved is also one of my favourites in the fandom. Without a doubt, the best non-crossover (or non-alternative-summoning) fic. It takes itself a lot more seriously than the rest of the fandom and does a good job of rewriting the world into something a bit darker. Despite that, the characters are all pretty likeable - even Louise, given the whole slavery theme going on.

I tried some of the first chapter, and the writing felt somewhat off - not a good sign, for me, especially since I've not actually watched the anime, and have no expectations regarding character voices.

Have you tried He Who Fights Monsters, incidentally? How does Enslaved compare?

Enslaved is nowhere near as good He Who Fights Monsters. I stopped reading Enslaved not too many chapters in.

Oh Enslaved is nothing on the level of He Who Fights Monsters. It's still only an Almost Recommendable.

I'd say it does get a bit better after the first few chapters. Starts very angsty before it starts moving on with the plot. Can't remember what the writing style was at the very start, but the last few updates were readable, so maybe it improves?

God I love He Who Fights Monsters, even if they bungled the ending. I'll give Enslaved a shot; even if it's only half as good that's beating out Sturgeon by quite a bit

I'm not saying Beyond the Outer Gates is genre defining, I'm actually quite in agreement with you. Just the content DLH and DAD is typically what I'd expect in some random Naruto cross over.

I finished A Demon Lords Hero. While characterisation, plot, and execution are all poor, I don't understand the hate-on for Karasuba in this thread. Her character fits the story being told and I enjoyed the revelation of her background and expanded family.

I enjoyed her arc, her character's duality and the whole family thing. But if I was taking the story a bit more seriously, I feel like it'd have been really out of place. It just comes out of nowhere and seems to have no real purpose in the overall plot.

Though, it's interesting that you enjoyed having read it all in one go. I thought the "out of place" feeling would be worse reading it in one go as opposed to chapter by chapter.

Please, DLH and DAD might not be the greatest, but they're nowhere near that bad. Not enough character bashing, nor is the MC Wank overt, or high enough to compare. Say what you will, but at least DLH and DAD are comparatively subtle about the wank, instead of whacking us over the head with it.

The wank is subtle in Demon among Devils? This is the same fic where some random dude from persona is transplanted into the series and curbstomps everyone of importance by like the fifth chapter right?

The long author note at the bottom of the first chapter of Demon Lord's Hero where he writes out his little diatribe on people happily becoming the slave of another person (a serious complaint, were the series even remotely serious) is right up there with the random bashing I'd expect in a Dumbles story.

I don't get it, I doubt I ever will get it, the story is complete trash, but if you want to rate is as readable then I guess that's your prerogative.
