Sounds like a bit less often than every twelve hours. Beyond that I don't think we have another time bracket to speculate off.

Also remember that Felix Felicis is extremely hard to make.

Canon tells us that the potion is very difficult and time consuming to brew, and disastrous if concocted incorrectly. From this, we can deduce that Felix Felicis is quite rare and expensive (thus, making it difficult to get hold of it.) Seeing that Slughorn, a potion master, was only able to take the potion twice in his life, I think we can fairly say that the Felix Felicis is an once-in-a-lifetime experience for an average wizard.

And, as Pete said above, the potion is highly toxic when taken in large quantities.

Why don't clothes protect from killing curses? Or any spell, for that matter. They're solid objects, are they not?

I presume it's for the same reason that they stay when apparating, or in the animagus form. While worn, they're a part of the wizard.

Is there any indication from the canon that an animagus form cannot be a magical creature? We know that magical creatures can be patronuses (Dumbledore's being a phoenix, Tonk's changing into a werewolf in HBP).

Not really. But being counter canon that's not the problem. It's the overpowered magical abilities writers give them that are. It greatly changes the nature of the story if Harry can turn into a Gambian Ninki Nanka and just melts Voldemort with his eye lasers or whatever. From that point on it isn't about a boy wizard having to overcome a challenge and more about a boy who has to master his new godlike powers.

My question: Is there an existing list of events that take place as a result of Harry's actions and ones that are wholly independent from his intervention?

I'm working on a Non-Bwl Harry fic and I'm having a hard time keeping the events straight in my mind. Such a list would be of great help.

Lol, that would be too easy. How would you even measure that? No, you wanna do the cool stuff, you gonna have to work for it ;)

HP-Lexicon has calendars with the most relevant events listed. But they might not cover all events ever (like, some really remote stuff), so you could compare it with the timeline.

Canonically, how are wards handled? I don't recall them being mentioned by name in canon -- Dumbledore always talks the protection Lily's sacrifice had, not explicit wards. And a lot of the protections we see in HP seem to be outright physical protections - such as several of the obstacles protecting the Philosopher's Stone.

There are charms which seem to have something like a warding/protecting effect, as we see in DH as well as the Fidelius Charm I suppose, but what can we realistically extract from canon regarding long-lasting/permanent magical protections and how they work? At what point is the warder expected to use more than just their wand?

Could the Killing Curse go through Armor?

Presumably, yes. Harry is the only person to ever get hit with it and live. I imagine if armor could protect someone from it, it would be more popular.

When abouts in the academic year was it when Hermione was petrified in CoS?

Supposedly May 8th, 1993 according to the HPL calendar. (Thanks to Sesc for the link above)

There is no such thing, as far as Canon is concerned. Wards are purely fanon. In Canon, it's always magical protection, or charm.

Objection, your honour! Calls for speculation.

    What we know:

People with clothes on are killed by the Killing Curse.

Physical objects sometimes stop the Killing Curse.

Physical objects are sometimes destroyed by the Killing Curse.

    Everything else is non-canon.

What if you staff your robes with a bunch of guinea pigs before going to battle, so that when the Killing Curse hits your robes, it kills one of them instead?

As Taure pointed out, this is basically speculation at this point. I'm happy to respond properly if you want to start a new thread.

I'll just briefly say that I was accepting your silly example as being the logical extension of my premise, and that I saw no contradiction in doing so.

I just spent half an hour building a solid 15-posts-thread out of posts in the "Questions that don't deserve their own thread"-thread. That's half an hour I could have spent doing productive things.

Infractions have been handed out, new thread is here. Think about whether you can't think of better ways getting a thread to discuss a certain topic. (Hint: You can create one at any time, and if you ask politely, I'll even move a couple of posts over there. But not 15, for fuck's sake.)

In order to foster greater activity in the Library, the Almost Rec'd thread was made into another subforum in the Library. If you find a fic that would fit in Almost Rec'd (generally 3/5), you should feel free to put it up for review.

For fuck's sake. If I delete a post, you can be certain there's a reason and that I'll get back to you in an unfriendly manner later on. How is that question at all fitting within the purpose of this thread?

And this means you don't need to answer either. Just ignore it and move on.
