Agree with this. My problem with how the author went about it was how practically everyone was left holding the idiot ball at really awkward moments.

I dropped the story at 10.2 because of said idiot balls, so they might have been resolved.

Author claiming Simurgh Plot for plot holes that were never resolved (or not adequately, if they were).

Collin jumping into Melee with Leviathan and not field testing Kryptonian technology vs the closest equivalent to Scion they'll ever get near was never explained and played purely for Rule of Cool. He also tried to justifying testing aforementioned tech on thugs in Brockton Bay as preparation for combat against Scion. None of this makes sense with their, at the time, stated goals.

Cauldron being brain-dead for the last several chapters and making extremely bad decisions that the author had to force PTV and Simurgh Plot to justify, and even then largely failing. This was annoying as hell throughout. None of their decisions make any sense outside of "piss off super alien more".

The extreme Moral Preaching that goes on throughout the story after Behemoth dies is grating, doubly so when the author keeps using his age and "I'm quitting" almost every chapter in 9.X onwards to stifle any debate or critique.

Guilty pleasure at best, 3/5 only cause of technical skills and complete status (AFAIK).

Most of the glaring shortcomings in Worm fanfic are a result of them being dime-a-dozen "What if Taylor had X Power from Y Franchise" scenarios that get updated twice. I don't even like reading Wormfics about Taylor because so few get the voice right.

I really love when people make original characters in the same setting, like set in different cities and whatnot. That's why I can ALMOST recommend the Demon of Alderdale stories by BlueberryPhi from r/protectoreddit. Longest running and probably best written of the protectoreddit fics.

Ryuugi's posted links to all of his old Worm snippets here: https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/worm-snippet-compilation-shards.362600/

He'll be posting all new Worm snippets there too. In fact, he's already started with a couple of chapters of a Hypnos fic. If you haven't come across Hypnos before, it's a horror idea about Taylor being sent back in time and returning as an Endbringer: Hypnos.

Materia-Blade has a good take on the Hypnos mythos here: https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/hypnos-worm-au.321286/

I'm just gonna link Intrepid here and emphasize the almost in recommendation. I'm a sucker for redemption stories and I've been keeping an eye on it and I like the Emma and Taylor parts of the story but the story is being massively brought down by the Madison and Sophia parts of the story. The story is about Emma and Madison triggering as well and both of them splitting ways with Sophia to try and start their own superhero careers.

The problem with this story is that every single chapter with Madison or Sophia just feel like a gigantic waste of time and I just don't care at all about them. So that cuts down the update rate and length of the story by half. I'm sure the story would be better if Cerulean just straight up deleted all the interludes, Madison and Sophia sections.

Also on that note, why the fuck does every single Worm story have to have interludes? I can't think of a single story that had interludes that were good. I just keep wanting the author to get back to the story.

I tried to read the beginning, but without knowing if Cerulean's learnt his lessons about conflicts and resolving them from Atonement, then I don't think I want to put myself through that again.

Basically, I think that Atonement was a great read and a lot of fun, until the reader realises that the heroes will always win without complication. The conflicts cheapened the rest of the story. Vesvius laid the argument out well here: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?p=805339 - The conversation goes on for another 30 or so posts, with Cerulean/Slane responding a couple of times too. It's worth reading.

Is Intrepid more of the same? I didn't want to become emotionally invested in the characters again if I was only reading it until I expected that I had enough evidence to drop the fic. Ironically, if Cerulean was a worse writer I wouldn't care so much and would probably have given it a chance already.

Unfortunately it says I don't have permission to read that link for some reason.

As for Intrepid, I would say that the story has a much bigger problem in that it has 4 main characters making the pacing of the story a lot slower than it should be. But the story is looking to tend to the good guys winning more often than not apart for things that interact with each other i.e Emma wants to atone for what she did to Taylor but her dad gets in the way causing Taylor to have it worse off. I think he might actually cause actual conflict between the main characters since they are all against each other and their story lines do crossover so that they are on different sides in the same conflict without realizing they are against each other.

I forgot to mention that the story is essentially a Taylor with the Faultline crew, Emma with the Undersiders, Madison with the Brigade (New Wave alt universe thing) and Sophia with the Wards. Honestly, I think it's just best skipping everything about Madison or Sophia, especially Sophia.

Sorry about that, I've changed the link to one you can read: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?p=805339

I've got this thread copied in a moderator's subforum as I work on it. I linked to that copy instead of the original, which is why you wouldn't have permission to see it.

    That sounds pretty good, actually.

And this is bizarro opposite world. Potentially interesting.

    /I bask in my God-like power./

When I first crossed the horizon into modship I logged into the forum and fell right through. “The thing’s hollow -- it goes on forever -- and -- oh my God! -- it’s full of stars!”

All you see now, Qgqqqqq, is like a dim image in a mirror.

Big Z recommended Paragon Interrupt by Katsuargi to me the other day. It's a Worm/Mass Effect crossover.

The dialogue in the first chapter is terrible. All of the dialogue. Every conversation. Those aren't human beings talking; they're robots. Autistic robots pretending to be people, badly. One of the robots watches Doctor Phil.

Has anyone read this? Does the dialogue get better? Are there any redeeming factors that would make the story worth reading past chapter one?

    Lies :(

I said it was mediocre at best. Its main draw was the update rate, pretty much daily at the time and churned out 100K words in about a month.

Frankly, there's not much good Worm FF out there so eh, it's something I can personally stomach, unlike picky!Yak over here :p

The redeeming factor is that there are now two stories that fit the bill of everything you said that is wrong with this ME/Worm cross. I honestly thought you where talking about Exiled.

Well, a Worm story that I have been following for a few weeks now is

    Title: Legion
    Author: NeverTooOld
    Rating: T
    Genre: Adventure/Romance
    Status: WIP
    Library Category: AU
    Pairings: TaylorAmy
Summary: Brockton Bay has an amazingly temperate climate. But sometimes, winter storms come through anyways. Because of this, Taylor was left in the locker for much longer, with far reaching consequences. Disclaimer: I own nothing. Worm belongs to Wildbow. We just get to play in this universe. It is fanfiction, thus is by definition AU. All changes are for my entertainment.
    Words: 157,047
    Link:Legion on ff.net

The writing is decent but it uses a lot of meh tropes, which is why it's in this thread, but I've been enjoying this one. Basically, Taylor has been in the locker for longer (of course) and was really severely injured, to the point of having crippled injuries, making her stay at home to be home-schooled as Danny does not send his daughter back to the place that caused this.

Something happens some time later and she gets re-hospitalized because her injuries worsen, which also drives a wedge between her and the PRT/Protectorate, naturally.

This time, she gets healed by Panacea which takes days, DAYS!, because her injuries are really, really bad, you see, the worst Panacea has ever seen in her entire life and you already know where this leads.

The yuri is...mainly the reason why I've been reading this, because this is very much a guilty pleasure story. It has everything, the repeated rantings against the bullies, constant "woe is me" paragraphs where they rail on how unfair their lives are, the spacebattles training montages where they use their powers to get better and stronger, where they come up with new stuff, like how to alter their bodies with Amy's power to get stronger or how they combine their powers, as Taylor's power is different here and they have this synergy, the fight scenes so far have been mostly one sided curbstomps because the Taylor + Amy power combo is just unfair, and well we have seen this kind of story before.

But the romance is cute (I have no idea why the Amy/Taylor ship is so compelling to so many people, but I am quite fond of it) and the writing is not terrible and I kinda like the take on the Dallon family and honestly, I even enjoy the montages, where Taylor studies and they come up with new applications for their powers.

Good way to kill some time.

    3/5

Legion was too melodramatic for my tastes. I only got to chapter seven before stopping. The author seemed incapable of just telling a story, and instead injects interpersonal conflict into every scene, no matter how benign.

I love what you did here, Nemrut. It makes things easier if I end up having to create a Library thread out of it in the future.

    Much approve.
