See I knew exactly what that was exactly what that story was going to be from the summary so never attempted to read it.

She doesn't need to be perfect to achieve this though.

Am I the only one who thinks Emma Watson is at least a little responsible for Hermione Sue in FanFiction?

Don't get me wrong, I think Emma Watson's awesome. She's a great actress, she's pretty damn smart, and she's hot. But when you get down to it, not only is she much more attractive than Book Hermione is, she was also give more chances to be great and awesome in the Books. Like the Gringotts Dragon scene: riding it was Book Harry's idea, but in the Movie it was Hermione. Or in the Half Blood Prince, where she's nowhere near as annoying on the Prince issue. Or with the Devil's Snare in PS, where instead of Hermione panicking and Ron snapping her out of it, Ron's the panicking one and Hermione just uses the spell. Or how she never gets a panic attack from facing her Boggart in Third Year. And so on and so on.

The whole point of the Arithmancer was that Hermione is a maths genius rather than someone whole devours books.

Sort of. It's not as much her fault as the writers of the films though, who committed great sins repeatedly. She is responsible for Hermione being seen as more attractive than she perhaps should be, but to be perfectly honest I can't quite find it within me to be upset at that.

You are not the only one and in fact the movies are responsible for almost everything wrong in the fandom.

Imagine that across an infinite number of universes, it's possible that SexGod!Snape exists in a few of them.
...nah. Not even the multiverse can make that shit real.

Hydrus and James were playing Halo: Reach. Remus was researching time travel still and Lily was tending Harry. All in all it was a nice happy family scene. Then Sirius walked through the door, with sagging shoulders and a disgruntled look on his face.

That's all you need to know about this story

    Peeve: fanfiction.net.

Specifically, the Favorites and Alerts system, where I have to search a hundred pages of bullshit that I've subscribed to at one point or another just to remove one fic. Or one spammy author. Or all of those fics that were abandoned in 2005 that I favorited in 2006.

It's funny, the Alert system is actually one reason I actually like the site. It might host some garbage but as far as usability and convenience goes it's pretty nice imo - though I do use a script to make things even nicer.

Admittedly I've never tried to remove really old favourites, but that's because I very rarely favourite anything. I can't imagine removing unwanted alerts is hard though, because if you receive an alert you're not interested in it will appear at the top of the list when sorted by date.

You know you can sort by date updated right? In fact I think it does that by default.

Author sorting is more useful for catching individual stories, but still more painful than it should be when I have to go through half a dozen pages to get to the point where I can unsubscribe from a single story.

Trying to unsubscribe from an author is ten times worse. I have to go through a dozen pages to find the right one, click the little ticky box, and then manually delete the author. Way too much work. :p

I'll admit that most of my problem with ff.net's alert system has more to do with my habit of saving off every vaguely interesting thing that I see than with the system itself. After all, it isn't like there's any other fanfiction site where there's actually three or four ways to unsubscribe from something - like a link in the automatic emails, or a ticky box on the page of the fic that'll let you unsubscribe on the spot, or a button on the author's profile page.

Of course, it'd probably be infested with slash and incest to make up for the usability.

Peeve: When authors try to substitute mundane for muggle like it makes them a better person for having their characters feel muggles are more equal and that it's wrong to call them 'derogatory' names. It's just what they're called calm the fuck down.

This is actually a red flag and any story that tries to use it more than once or twice in passing should be abandoned.

In the X-Men universe, some mutants use "Flatscans" as a derogatory term for non-mutants.

I actually saw a story that was an X-Men crossover, where Harry is raised in America and has mutant powers in addition to magic. Of course, it had the inevitable scene where Dumbledore and his followers try to come collect Harry and take him to Hogwarts.

During the conversation, Harry gets shitty with them about using the word "muggle" because it's a derogatory term... then proceeds to use the term flatscans repeatedly, in the same conversation.

    Pot, meet kettle.

It just made me shake my head. The author tries to give Harry the moral superiority because he doesn't use one slur, then unironically turns around and has him immediately use another, without ever realizing what they've just written. :facepalm

Sounds like it could have been a clever subversion of the trope had it been used less boneheadedly.

At least Muggle is better than "Nomaj" that the Americans use in the new Fantastic Beasts movie, at least Muggle is quaint and charming, like using 'Gay' to mean happy. :p
