Some sort of wish-fulfillment? Honestly, it's a bit disturbing if you look that way.

 

When a user favorites me or my story on ffnet, and I enter his profile to find he has about 5000 other favorite stories, or, alternatively, simply really awful ones. (I admit my writing isn't that great, but, well, it's still kind of dispiriting.)

When a certain character - usually Harry - gets into dark magic, and starts saying that dark magic isn't evil or complains that the Ministry/Hogwarts discriminate against dark wizards. But every piece of dark magic he learns is used for torture or killing. No shit the Ministry and Hogwarts won't take kindly to practitioners of torture techniques - there isn't any reason to learn this magic other than to perform sadistic acts.

Not that I'm against protagonists being sadistic or using dark magic, but this kind of whining hypocrisy is just annoying.

I wrote a story that Harry and Tom were the protagonists. It was just a one-shot, but a good chunk of the people who favorited were very fond of slash stories. I certainly didn't write any sort of the stuff, but it seemed that I couldn't stop teenager girls from fantasizing.

 

My current peeve: When the main character is above any and all moral reproach. I'm currently reading Harry crow and I'm thinking about punching the author, a lot. Harry is the most Gary-Mary-Barry-Sue-Glue-Stew I have ever read. Oh shit, Lord Crow is here and he's about to bitchslap some ignorant teachers with his moral 15 inch factstick. Don't forget the slender yet oddly sexual description of how well eleven year old Hermione is wearing her jogging suite. For fucks sake I get it, I want to fuck emma watson as much as the next guy but have you looked at her in the first fucking movie? She looks like a fucking child. I'm two hundred pages in, thats 10% of this piece of shit. Ron the colossal cuntbag is so unlikeable that even his own family wants to slap his face. No worries, I'm certain Malfoy will be an interesting opponent for Le perfect gentlemen Harry Muscle-Mcbeefy. Just kidding, when opposition threatens to exist, Goblins will rise to the challenge and simply analy rape anyone, because MONEY! What is that? Is that manipulative!Dumbledore with an IQ of 82 trying to hatch another devious plan? No worries, our hero doesn't need to deal with that himself, he now has the pants on hat retarded idiots to fight his battles for him. How can this story go on for another 1800 pages? GOD AND THE FUCKING ROMANCE!! Putting two characters together does not make them love each other. I can't WAIT to see them marry at 12 or something equally dumb. OH FUCK, please don't tell me Luna is making an appearance. Godking Harry Rippletits would probably cockchoke anyone who even dares to call the mentally unbalanced girl odd.

You know what? I'm changing my pet peeve, it's this story. Fuck Harry Crow in his perfect shiny, golden anus.

 

What were you actually expecting from a story with a summary like that?

 

Idk, the premise of a Goblin warrior interacting with the wizarding world did sound interesting. I thought, "Hey!, this story is super long with a decent premise and has loads of reviews, how bad could it possibly be?" I'm not gonna make that mistake again.

 

The Patil family being involved in imports/exports. Seriously, it seems like every time they play more than a filler role someone mentions that their family is heavily involved in imports/exports.

Just once I'd like them the family to be perfectly lower-to-middle class Indians who've only ever actually been to India on holiday.

 

The same thing happens with Cho Chang, only her family does imports from China (how shocking, I know!). Though I think just once I read a fic where Cho's father was a muggle.

HoS, reading that list of inspirations I think it's almost an insult to brainthief to be mentioned within the same 20 word span as lesswrong, despite the fact that his story is a wobbly 3/5. Also, that list even existing is so filthy and lazy that I can't even.

 

To me brainthief is at the level of robst and lesswrong. I hate über-angst.

 

Technically agreed, I just put lesswrong at the bottom by spiteful default.

 

I'm new here, does most of the hate for MoR come from the arrogance and half knowledge lesswrong is employing or do most people not find the story enjoyable to read?
