Caught up with Ouroboros, which was a roller coaster. That story is pretty much all of the place with every single part. Characters, plot, and pacing vary wildly at any given point. And it covers the gamut from great moments to absolutely cringe worthy moments.

AU. A modification of the seal holding back the Kyuubi has surprising consequences. When each choice brings about a new world, what will happen when different possibilities collide? Many Naruto wreaking havoc! First fic.
    Rated: Fiction M - English - Adventure/Family - Naruto U. - Chapters: 59 - Words: 617,435 - Reviews: 2,053 - Favs: 1,758 - Follows: 1,510 - Updated: Jan 24 - Published: May 28, 2011 - id: 7028564

Probably one of my all time favorite Naruto fics. I almost didn't read it because it sounded like some weird comedy fic. Its not. It gets pretty damn dark.

This story is about a Naruto who gains the power to shift between different realities. Thus, he meets different versions of himself i.e Female Naruto, Uchiha Naruto etc. In a way, he tries to help other versions of himself live a better life. But helping others is not easy nor does his power come without a heavy price.

Explaining further would be somewhat spoiling. However, be warned. There is one arc early one that has to do with weird gods and demons. Its completely retarded. I'd advice you to either power through it or ignore it. The fic gets much much better after that arc ( hell, its much better even before it).

I actually liked that. It hits a lot of my peronal preferences - the OC is more than bearable, I actually like his type, I like fem!Naruto. It has a few really shitty bad moments, but those are all in the beginning of the fic. It definitely improves later on. Well written, too, and the logical take on the Naruto world has been very realistic and fulfilling so far.

But yeah. Power-hungry, mildly psychopathic genius OC!SI!Hyuuga main character tightly bonded with a cute fem!Naruto. I personally found that the humor parts dragged the fic down, but overall I enjoyed it, especially later.

The last few chapters have been a slog to get through. No joke, the most recent one is almost 16,000 words of a conversation between the SI main character and Danzo, and the vast majority of it is the SI's internal monologue. It was long and boring, and something that could have been conveyed in less than a tenth of the total words actually used.

I want to enjoy that story, but the author is making it difficult to do so.

I'm having trouble articulating the sheer goddamn cringe-inducing madness that was the interaction with Sasuke and Itachi in chapter two.

The "humor" is absolutely a drag.

Edit: Oh lord, that Chapter 3.

Yeah, I found World full of Monsters painful to read through. Maybe it improves by the end, but the author tries too hard to be funny or intelligent and manages neither.

That was the one where the SI beat up Sasuke or something, right? And then tried to bow to Itachi for being a troll or something?

    That one was just horrible.

Didn't the SI off Sasuke as well?

Can we please stop it with the SI's already? They're all garbage from the get go, just let them die.

Well, this story has never been recommended here (at least as far as I can tell), so why not. I'd put it up for review, but its getting close to two years old now.

    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9495527/1/Konoha-s-Maelstrom

Summary: If you have ridiculous chakra reserves, a forbidden technique that enables brute force training, and an insatiable appetite for epic skills, what are the chances that you'll settle for mediocrity? A bit of insanity is a small price to pay for being awesome.

It seems to be a rewrite of a story called "Konoha's Leaf Maelstrom" or something like that, but having read the other story, I'd have to say that this one is far superior.

There are some very interesting twists in this story, things I've not seen in any other Naruto fic and I consider myself a rather prolific reader of fanfiction.

I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say give a try.

I personally enjoyed Konoha's Maelstrom, but it includes some tropes like shadow clone training that I know many people on DLP dislike. That being said I still think it would be worth your time to read Maelstrom even if you don't like shadow clone training because it doesn't come with the crappy writing that similar stories are accompanied by.

I second the suggestion for Konohas Maelstorm. Although the story hasn't been updated in a while, the humor was spot on and the writing is upto standards.

I don't know, I don't really like it. There just doesn't seem to be anything that interesting about Konohas Maelstorm.

And all the library nonsense at the beginning just reminds me of Arthur singing about how great it is to have a library card. Libraries are all find and good, but I just don't think it's a way Naruto would ever be able to learn. Besides, soooo many fics have him suddenly studying for hours on end and musing on the nature of chakra. That's boring to read about, imo.

Perhaps, I'm judging it too harshly, though.

No, you're absolutely right. It's your typical fixit-fic thing where it turns out all along the answers were already available in the library. It really makes you wonder what the point of sending them to the academy was.

The other problem with this fic is that 50% of each chapter is pointless background info/uninteresting introspection. I was able to skim the first line of each paragraph until I got to one where someone was doing something without getting lost or not understanding the plot.

Its another one of those fics where the author tries to be too ambitious and ends up with substandard chapters.

Get to chapter 4. I understand that the story seems rather cliche in the beginning, but I believe that the author subverts those cliches in an interesting way. That's just me, though.

Honestly I would if the fic weren't abandoned. With the last update in earlyish 2014 I'd rather quit before it gets good. Nothing more annoying than stumbling across some really cool fic and then realising its last update was years ago. Except perhaps leaving a review and then realising that.

Better at least than stumbling upon a fic that had just been updated, seems to be updating at a reasonable rate... and then spending a year or two waiting for the next chapter before finally accepting that it's over.

At least when it was abandoned years ago you aren't left with any false hope.
