Eh.. I think you are correct when you say that G.R.R.M turned this trope of the heroes winning upside down but in my opinion the end result is just as boring considering that you can now bet that things will get worse, that plans won't work out and that the villain will triumph (= the exact opposite of traditional fantasy). And it is not like those hints are that subtle when you have six books of things continuously getting worse...

For me the whole series would be a lot more interesting if not everybody was an asshole and not everybody plan/action would lead to greater suffering, turn out to be a mistake or plan of the big, mysterious plan of yet another mastermind villain.

Davos is one of the most badass. I've come to accept every character I like will likely die sooner or later, but he's one I'm going to be really bummed about when he's time eventually comes.

Yes, they made her blind because she broke the rules and stole a face to off one of the names on the list. Didn't really understand the scene though. Apart from Jaqen going from waifu to he-who-speaks-like-Caesar, here the Faceless Men are much more magick-y than I remembered. Or maybe it was only something they put in her dinner / had her drink like in the books.

 

I think the most damning critique I can make (and one I've only realized recently) is that if it was perfectly all right in-universe at 14 to have someone's baby/get married whatever, then Robert (three years Rhaegar's younger at 18 or 19), a man who was desperately in love with Lyanna... would have already been married to her.

If Robert Baratheon had to wait to get married, then any defense of Rhaegar on the grounds that Lyanna was a woman grown by Westerosi standards are null and void.

 

You could easily just point to Catelyn Tully and Brandon Stark though, who were older and waited anyway.

Lyanna and Robert's marriage just wasn't an actual priority enough to just wed at the earliest age possible. It wasn't like he was the last of his line or old, he had two younger brothers.

As for the clip from the trailer I assumed he was going to fight with the people around him, but they're there to help him. The bad guys are standing outside.
