There's a quote from Slughorn saying that while a bezoar is a cure for most poisons (including all of those he had prepared for the class), it is not completely foolproof, hence the need to know how to brew a specialized one.

As for basilisk venom, Hermione explicitely says in DH that phoenix tears are the only known antidote.

    A few points,
    Philosophers stone:
    So only most poisons.

    Deathly Hallows:
    So not Basilisk venom.

Finally I'd note that bezoars were an ingredient in many of the antidotes they were making in 6th year if I remember correctly.

Is it possible to track Apparition and Portkeys? I've seen a couple of fics with this...

Lupin says you can't track Apparition in DH:
About Portkeys we don't know anything as far as I am aware.

This sounds like it ties into all that magical cores BS that's been debated time after time. No there are no magical cores, and Dumbledore, Harry, and Voldemort don't register over 9000. There are only spells and those who haven't learned them yet.

Neither, and I'm (and you) aren't starting a magical theory discussion here @OP.

No one in Canon talks about 'power levels', and simultaneously it's clear there are spells that are 'harder' than others, and conversely wizards who know spells perfectly well, but can't do anything with them (shield charms and most people, compare the scene in the twin's shop where they talk about shield hats in HBP).

There's also the venom that Nagini has, which Arthur had the misfortune of encountering.

    Two mostly unrelated questions:

    -------- One --------

I have a vague recollection of a someone (possibly Snape? But also potentially a House Elf rather than a wizard) using magic to apparently vanish something, but the context being that they were moving the object to another location (perhaps a trunk being moved to a dorm room?).

If this sequence exists, does anyone have a quote for the passage? I don't have my books to hand, nor my hard drive with the pdfs)

    -------- Two --------

Can anyone provide some examples from canon where a single spell has been used to produce more than one effect?

So far I have the following:

    Shield charm:
    - Weak shields barely able to block jinxes (GoF) to strong shields able to block powerful curses (OotP onwards)
    - Able to block spells or reflect spells.
    - Able to block physical objects.
    - Able to be cast over large areas.
    - Potentially able to harm those that try to cross it (protego horriblis, circumstantial evidence only)

    Locomotor spell:
    - Moves the target (locomotor X, sometimes just locomotor)
    - Prevents the target from moving (locomotor mortis)
    - Moves the target under its own power (piertotum locomotor on statutes)

    Reparo charm:
    - Returns objects to their previous state
    - Combines two separate objects into one (two Potions books)

    Conjuring spell:
    - Makes various objects appear (inanimatus conjuris)

If anyone has any more to add that'd be great.

One: McGonagall makes a plate of Sandwiches appear for them to eat after crashing the car in CoS. Since you can't make food she presumably makes it disapear from one place to reappear for them. The same with Dumbledore and the mead at the Dursleys in HBP.

Two: Can't think of any beyond your examples.

I was more meaning in the opposite direction. I would consider those two examples of "summoning by apparition" whereas I'm looking for an example of "banishing by apparition". Since summoning by apparition is possible, one presumes banishing by apparition is also, and I have a sense that it has happened, but it would be nice to get firm confirmation.

This is the context of the request, by the way.

Didn't someone (maybe Bill) vanish/banish some papers with plans on them at Grimmauld Place when Harry entered a room where an Order meeting had just ended?

I found the passage I believe you are referring to, with respect to One:
    From HBP.

Also, for Two, I think Impedimenta has a host of different "impeding" effects ranging from tripping to freezing in place to throwing backwards.

Here's that one, and it demonstrates a Vanishing that implies later restoring:
I take 'cleared away' as stowed rather than erased from existence. We know from later class excerpts that McGonagall is able to un-Vanish some partly-Vanished items when they're practicing Evanesco.

Do we have any reason to suspect that the Marauders knew that Snape was in love with Lily?
Because they definitely knew she was his friend. However Sirius, Remus and Dumbledore all tell Harry that Snape was jealous of their popularity.

Not as far as I can tell. The reason the Marauders didn't like Snape in the canon was 1) he practiced the Dark Arts, which James detested, 2) Snape followed them around, trying to get them expelled, and 3) the feud that formed after James insulted Snape on the Hogwarts express. James being annoyed at Snape and Lily's friendship/Snape's infatuation of Lily reasonably may have happened, but that's just speculation.

Anyone have anything on the hand that is conjured for Wormtail in GOF. I don't recall a spell off the top of my head, nor do I remember anything about how it feels.

    1) Is there any information on how long it takes dragons to grow?

    2) What sort of growth timeline do we have on Norbert?

Excerpt from "Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit", or rather PotterMore. This is the book Hagrid borrowed from the library to help him with Norbert. Note that he mentions that it's a bit outdated.
