Who here is getting Dark Souls 3? Assuming you haven't already gotten the Japanese version/lied about being a streamer or reviewer and got a free copy.

I've always loved the games, but I never adored them until Bloodborne. While I'm told there are weapons that let you dash, I don't think I want to go back to that world, or that slower, less aggressive combat tbh.

By all accounts, if BB didn't do it for you and you miss Dark Souls, this is the game for you.

I'll just keep playing Salt and Sanctuary and get back on the Souls train when BB2 comes out.

 

Eventually, but not on release, since I'm currently broke.

And I'm not all fond of the Season Pass bullshit which says there'll be 2 DLCs in addition to the main game.

 

How is that different from Dark Souls 1 or 2, or Bloodborne exactly?

I played Dark Souls on PC, so there was no DLC to speak of in regards to that.

And I didn't buy Dark Souls 2, or any of its DLCs, or the SotFS edition.

And just because it's not any different from what was done before doesn't mean it's good or acceptable.

 

Ok explain to me what your problem with expansion packs is please because I honestly don't understand what your problem is here?

 

Proper expansion is one thing. It's made after the main game has been released.

Whereas these DLCs more often than not tend to be content made during the game's development and then cut from the main portion of the game to be sold later as DLC. You can see that sort of practice a lot in the video game industry, most recently notable one being TW: Warhammer and its pre-order bullshit to get the Chaos Warriors as a faction.

 

Just finished Transistor. That ending was not what I expected.

It's being sold before the game is even released and tells us the number of DLC that will be sold at a later date.

It's a fair assumption to make that they've been working on making the DLC during the game's development.

 

....and? There's a difference between additional content being added to a complete game that doesn't need it to be a success, and dlc that is needed for the game to feel complete. I'm okay with them starting development ahead of time, as it means it'll be released sooner. I'm NOT okay with them seeing an easy way to make twenty bucks and cutting something out of the game to sell me on Day 1. There's a massive difference between the two.

 

Pretty much this Odran, your position isn't a new one to me but it's been a while since I've seen someone seem to genuinely mean what you're saying when it comes to games that are being released in full and then get DLC as expansion content.

 

DS3 was finished months ago, like with most games. All that's been happening until it went gold were QA and optimisation - and with day 1 patches being a staple these days, that's likely to continue until release and some time after.

Like with every other job in the world, they don't do nothing when their work is finished. Three quarters of the team have probably moved on to Bloodborne 2, while the rest are working on the DLC.

While I doubt any organisations cash flow is as simple as this, I imagine a decent portion of the season pass sales are going towards the team working on the DLC.

You know, because people need to get paid.

 

Is Bloodborne 2 confirmed? For some reason, I thought I read that they weren't making one.

 

Dark Souls as a series is finished after ds3, the next "souls-like" out of From Soft is going to be set in the future with guns and likely robots. Nothing has been said about the possibility of Demon Souls 2 or Bloodborne 2 though it's likely that at least the latter will happen at some point. Personally, I'm hoping for a game that ties Demon Souls and Bloodborne into the same continuity. Possibly titled "Demonborne".

 

BB did ridiculously well. For good or bad, there's no way a company like Sony doesn't make a sequel.

All the talk coming out of From seems to be Miyazaki and co. are super excited to explore the Gothic / Lovecraft angle further.

 

I heard they weren't going to do a BB2 as well, but like Hug says, the game was so succesful that I imagine the temptation to sequel up somewhere down the line will be impossible to resist.

 

Man, those Natuto UNS games sure look pretty.

Does anyone here play them? What kinds of games are they? Are you basically locked into the canon story? Or is it just a Disidia like fighting game?

 

Witcher 3 also had DLC being sold before it was even launched, but that was the way CD Projekt found to fund the DLCs without having wait months abd disband the team and then run around mounting it again like some Frankstein. I think it can be done right.
