Witcher 3's actual expansions are great even though some of the mechanics are a little pointless.

The Ninja Storm games are pretty good arena fighters. Additinoally, the boss fights in the story mode are fantastic.

So is the game basically Dissidia? Or is there more to it than a 3D arena fighter?

The problem with release-day-DLCs is that it indeed stinks of profiteering. The idea that the developers (by which I mean the publishers) go "I can sell this product for $x, or I could sell 80% of it for $x and sell the rest as an optional extra". Seeing as $x is the baseline price for newly released AAA-games, you get the feeling you're paying extra for 20% that should, by all accounts, be already paid for.

Back in the day when you bought the game and, a year later, got a big expansion, there was no question that you got what you paid for. Digital distribution has changed that.

But, in the end, nothing has changed with regards to the basic value proposition; the seller offers you a product for a certain price, and it is your choice to accept the deal or not. If you think $x is too much for 80% of a game, don't buy it. In fact, you could argue that slicing and dicing the game offers you more choice as to which parts you want to pay for.

On a similar note: Pre-ordering games. Do you do it? On the one hand, it is a neat idea to support the developer of the game of your choice. On the other, you're paying for an uncertain product that just might be shit. The developer can go ahead and say "we've already sold enough copies, no need to put in anymore effort". That would be silly and stupid and I doubt it's the case most of the times, but the fact remains that you pay for something upfront when you don't know how good it's going to be.
Not to forget that everyone and their uncle are screaming "don't pre-order games in 2014 56"

Personally don't pre-order, only ever done it once and that was once FE Fates was confirmed for a Euro/Aus release. Specifically got the 3-in-1 collectors edition which sold out pretty quickly too so I was lucky in that regard

Most games I don't buy until a month or so later when there's a big sale, very few get me hyped enough to lavish 80-100 dollars on a purchase.

Especially crappy that they do this with shooters - where if you don't buy the DLCs (release-day and expanded both), you'll get booted out of a server if it swaps to a map that you don't have. I haven't bought one since the original Black Ops because I'm tired of basically paying $120 for a game just so I'm able to play it as intended.

The biggest problem I have with Season Passes these days is that you often have no idea what you are actually buying - the companies often provide little to no information about what those passes and DLC's include while at the same time heavily promoting them. There are some exceptions (I think The Witcher 3 actually provided some basic information about their two big expansions) but most of them make it impossible to get any idea what you are actually buying.

And I have to agree that map expansions for shooter games are perhaps the most annoying of all expansions since they more or less force you to buy them if you want to continue to have a satisfying experience.

Unlike others here I don't hate Day 1 DLC's that much if it the base game is/feels complete without them and provides a satisfying experience (though I admit that this can become quite a complicated argument since a good DLC shouldn't feel tacked on...) and I really don't care about cosmetic stuff.

And for pre-odering - I don't really get the "support the developer argument", especially when it comes to the big companies, and I am no big fan of substantial pre-odering bonuses (like added content etc.). Ideally I would suggest not to pre-order and wait for tests/public release but I fully admit that I often don't follow that rule myself. If I see a game that looks really interesting and that I really like (for example the new Battlefleet: Gothic) chances are that I will pre-order it though I have gotten better at controlling myself over the years.

Yeah, not describing season passes, especially expensive ones (Battlefront, Batman) is fucked up.

Paid DLC maps are just dumb too. Splitting the player base.

CDPR get a pass imo. They said that the SP included 2 huge story expansions, the second in a new map. Can't really say more than that.

Well I just dropped $50 on the Preorder for Stellaris, but it's a Paradox game, and while they are DLC whores I feel alright about this one, and I am ready To Make Space Great Again.

Probably not going to be so awesome once EA takes it down. I think I said it before but they really shouldn't reveal these things until they're about ready to be released.

I dunno. Apeiron isn't going to be making money off this, so I don't see any legal basis for EA shutting down the project.

I'm looking for a good MMO to play.

Preferably one that is more sandbox than themepark.

    More opportunity for roleplaying.

    More PVP focused.

    Thoughts?

I can think of games that have really great RP communities (ex: FF14, LOTRO), and games that have great PVP (ex: TERA, GW2) but I can't actually think of any that have both.

    Odd.

Honestly...my preferred playing style is an RP that meshes the pvp game mechanics with the roleplay. It gives more incentive to me to level up and grind than merely the game itself.

Eh, even if they don't make any money, if it's a trademark/copyright violation, that's enough legal basis to take it down.

Aren't they in fact obligated to pursue such violations in order to protect copyright?

Lucasfilm has a pretty long history of encouraging the production of fan films and fanfiction, so I don't think they really care all that much about nonprofit infringements.

As long as this is marketed as a purely nonprofit fan project, with a nice big disclaimer stating as such, I doubt they'll care enough to issue a takedown.

If Apeiron were to start advertising their other projects/sponsors inside the game, or were to use this project as showcase/promotional material for other projects, then they'll probably encounter some legal problems.

However Disney's take on this is still somewhat unknown. We know that they're still supporting fan films but a remake of a game feels different than if this were a brand new fan game inspired by KoTOR. I'm ignoring Apeiron so I won't be sad when it's shut down. KoTOR 1 may look dated now but I like how it looks, and I recently started my first time playing it.

They should remake KOTOR in Disney Infinity. Disney would be well up for that :p

    Giantbomb has some ps4.5 info.

Unless they offer a substantial discount to current owners I don't see myself upgrading. Sony first party games are pretty awesome but I can't justify dropping another 400$ for some prettier graphics.

    Some highlights:

    Codnamed "NEO".

    Probably 399$.

    Upgraded gpu, memory and cpu.

    4k output supported.

All games must support both versions and have no "NEO" exclusive parts.

Framerate on "NEO" version has to meet or exceed the original ps4 version.

Every ps4 game released after October has to support "NEO". Everything in September must have a day 1 patch.

Isn't a magical upgrade to previous games. They would need to be patched in order to make use of the upgrades.
