After 30 plus packs I finally get my first WoG legendary:
    [IMGUR]Whja8Qu[/IMGUR]

The only downside is that I don't play Mage in constructed at all.

It wasn't, but I also made a RenoThun deck. Testing it now.

Don't know yet. The meta has not settled enough to determine whether it's still S-class or not.

Zoo is still plenty rigged, but that's because everyone's playing C'thun more than it being top tier. If your opponent stalls long enough to drop emps, or if you come up against shaman, you're fucked.

    At least you had lethal!

But now I want to build a deck that supports Ancient Ones. Just for the lulz.

Do you guys spend money on Hearthstone? Is it possible to play without doing that or are there things one has to buy to have a good experience?

I spent a bunch initially, nothing at all since then. I can still play, but only barely.

I'd say the game is quite clever in that you can definitely play without spending money, at ;east enough for it to addict you. But as soon as you come to truly understand and appreciate the game, it becomes clear that you will need to spend at least a bit of money in order to still have fun.

    Basically what innomine said.

    It's POSSIBLE to play entirely without paying a single cent, you can earn enough gold daily to buy at least 2 packs if you complete your quests, in addition to potential arena money + tavern brawl... but it's no where near as fast as buying some packets to get those cards you need to finish your deck. ;_;

A newbie might find it difficult (or suuuuuuuper time consuming), but a strong player can do it without spending money, as evidenced by all the "pros" making new free-to-play accounts and showing the way. But it takes time (beside skill), no doubt.

As for having fun... well, it depends on what exactly makes it fun for you. If it's collecting cards, you can do it. If it's deck-building and ranking up, you can't really do it for a while. If it's drafting, you're set with arena, although it costs gold and you could find it difficult to finance it with its own rewards until you're a good player.

I played a year ago or so for a bit, got like lvl 23 with my priest and a few others, but never had any really good cards. So, was trying to get back into the game and was wondering what my first steps should be, whether it was just grinding gold to get the adventures or if purchasing the adventures is actually worth it.

Not sure I like the idea of buying boosters, like, how many would you need to buy to get a reasonable chance of getting good cards anyway?

I bought 80 packs and have every common, rare and a good chunk of epic cards and 6 legendaries. Probably 50 packs is enough for the common and rare cards, the rest is up to luck.

I've never spent a cent with hearthstone. I still have a lot of fun with the game. To be honest, the area that it hurts the most is with adventures. Buying packs is comparatively easy as you go on (arena, tavern brawl, quests, gold rewards etc).

Then you've got adventures. They run something to the tune of 2,800-3,500 gold for the full thing. It can be aggravating to want Dark Iron Skulker from BrM, but not really be interested in any of the other cards.

Especially when you could just buy 28-35 packs instead.

I did buy two of the adventures with money (Naxx/BRM) but LoE with gold. I think I spent some 5$ on packs once on a whim, but no more.

Basically, getting gold gets easier the more you play. Sounds simple in theory, but it's the truth.

God, all I want is the Flamewaker so I can play a mage deck that isn't freeze. At least I used to have mech mage.

The mage decks look like the most fun to me, but I'm just not willing to spend $35 on a single card.

I'm not sure I consider hearthstone f2p any more to new people if you want to be competative.

    If you don't, who cares?

As for a lulzy Ancient One deck, Rogue, my friend. Shadowcasters ftw.

I got my 2nd legendary from a Shaman arena run and of course it had to be another Anomalus.

Don't complain. I've barely gotten any legendary (I've crafted almost every single one of mine).
