True, true. But as it goes on, Martin dabbles more and more on them, so I'm hesitant to agree completely, as much as the magic was never really straightforward, as you mention, it is effective, as Melisandre has proved again and again.

I do think that more than Vietnam, we can take lessons about Danny from the American Civil War and the Reconstruction. She's obviously supposed to have the moral ground, and its her work after that is to be criticised.

Thanks btw! If you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome.

I wanted to ask people, where would they think the Quest would do better? SV, SB or QQ? As much as I like DLP, it has a tiny Quest-base, and most everyone that plays them here are also member of the other sites. I'm in doubt whether I will crosspost or not too.

Definitely not QQ. SV has more Asoiaf quests if I'm not mistaken, largely because Droman began the trend there.

Huh, I always saw her as an caricature/deconstruction of all the exiled/forgotten prince stories where after overthrowing the evil kingdom they would establish a just and fair paradise (and live happily ever after).
Though I guess the basic message, that ideals are not enough, stays the same...

And for where to post - I would say that SV has the more active player-base and may be a bit more receptive to the changes in Canon/non magical path you are going for...

Mm. It was really me and Mazrick who started doing ASOIAF Quests (and I only started because I had a wealth of material on a Skyrim story I wanted to tell somehow and Dragonborn! Jon Snow seemed cool at the time). IIRC, it was SB collapsing under it's own decreipt weight ala the Soviet Union and some regulars inviting me to come over to SV in the wake of the Athena incident that spurred me on. :sherlock:

Course now Mazrick's out of the ASOIAF game and a lot of my old regulars are kicking ass running their own Quests, so at this point I'm really the old man on the block telling kids to get off his yard.

SV would be best. It has the best Quest base. It goes really fast there. Plus SB administration is unpredictable as they declare no tolarance rule every now and then. I had problems there for weird shit.

Also if it comes down to it SV has Sufficiently Sexy that you can post any adult materiel that is related to it without going out to elsewhere provided you are part of that user group. It is kinda hidden.

If not? SB is acceptable. QQ has too small active userbase.

    Dragonstone

Stannis finds a Dragon in Dragonstone after the Rebellion. It's been an interesting read so far, but sadly very short.

I'm fully expecting to see the third chapter ending with
Robert marching on Dragonstone to attack Stannis, with Stannis winning and flying off to King's Landing to burn it to the ground.

Really good fic. I wonder if we'll ever learn why the dragon hatched.

Stannis's teeth-grinding produced just the right frequency to crack the egg's shell.

Some god wanted to see if Stannis could suck all the fun out of having a flying pet superweapon the same way he did everything else.

Currently searching for a good Jon centered fanfic that is not Jon/Sansa. Any suggestions?

To Go Forward is one I've recommended before, a Jon Snow Peggy Sue. A Better Fate which is here is about Jon becoming a knight and the butterflies from that. A Dragon of the North is a quest that can be read as a story about Jon with Dragonborn powers. Vows Unspoken has Jon go south with Robb, as does Allies in a Time of War. Hopefully one of them is to your taste.

Fuck me those are all terrible. Especially that A Dragon of the North one, putting together ASOIAF and Skyrim, honestly...

Yeah really, what was the author smoking when he thought of that. The magic system is incompatible and the character is so overpowered that any tension from conflicts is removed. An absolutely horrible story. The author is better off focusing on his other ASOIAF fic The Leech Lord....

Yes, gods, Jon is such a whiny emo there too, and a prude. A male MC in a fantastic universe that is both a prude and pussy whipped, while also being an emo. Shit I tell you. It's also a Quest, the lowliest form of entertainment after baseball.

I actually enjoyed it tbh. I'd rate it a 4/5 for entertainment.

The magic system isn't incompatible; it's integrated in pretty well, and the complaint about Jon's character isn't fair at all since he's the same he was in canon, but a better version of himself. I'll admit I'm not a fan of quests either, but you shouldn't discount it just because of that.

Brave of you to show your support here. I don't know who that Droman fellow is, but he should know he doesn't fit in here.:colbert:

    Robb Returns.

One of the best ASoIaF stories around, I think. Robb is send back in time from the moment of his death by the Old Gods to help prepare Westeros for the coming of the Others. The fic starts shortly before canon and the Game of Thrones is not the main aspect of the story, though it does feature. Some people might dislike that the story moves along rather slowly, but I like the pacing and can heartily recommend the story.

Robb Returns is not exactly an insider tip, it has more than 1000 reviews. As it has not been mentioned on here before, some of you might want to give it a try.

Hash, don't bring your personal dramas with Droman here. The last thing we need is another war of words with Space Battles over their wunderkind.

The very fist chapter should have been telling enough, but with each successive chapter, it gets worse.

It's fucking awful and I recommend people not waste their time on it.
