While we're dealing with the disappointment of the new games, the original beta for Pokemon Gold (from before Red/Blue were even released in the US!) has been rediscovered in a private collection.

This was well before demos were scrubbed, so there's a *lot* of interesting stuff, including the entire set of Beta Pokemon and a region that represented the whole of Japan (where they turned Kanto into a single city, the maniacs!).

 

Yeah I've played this.

The actual playable part is very short, given that it is a demo after all.

But it's very neat! It is a true crime that some of these pokemon were never implemented, like the Tangela pre-evolution.
