You can bet on 'VR stations' being set up at malls all around the world to get the word out and get people advertising for them.

That's always been one of VR's biggest problems - arguably the biggest, because I feel one you experience it, the product turns from 'overpriced' to 'pricey'. Big difference.

Exactly. Marketing a phone or television is straightforward, and why I throw hundreds of dollars towards them. Rift and Vive on the other hand depend on showings and reviews that don't encapsulate much of the experience (yes, even the over the top reactions).

But this mixed VR video is still hype inducing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29xnzxgCx6I

I actually got to play with one of the dev kits fairly recently, my younger brother had a programming professor who managed to get her hands on one - and she was cool about letting a college I.T. gofer play with it for a few minutes.

The head tracking was damn good, and from what I could tell from the demo she let me 'walk' around in - depth perception was of no issue. Resolution and framerate were great as well. I'll admit to more than my fair share of hype, but I really hope that this takes off and pushes something of a revolution in where the marketing money flows.

Big screen movies? Please, I want to feel like I'm a free flying camera.

Can you imagine a virtual tour of Hogwarts put together by the most obsessive of fans?

We could eventually totally replace the computer monitor with something like this - 'walk' through a virtual store instead of looking at a webpage for example. A wall of fire to represent a firewall. Interactive advertisements that shut up when you aren't actually looking at them.

    TLDR;

If you get the chance to play with one of these, jump on it - hella fun. Also, read Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson.

A great video showing the hype I feel. Try and watch this and not get excited along with them.

Tech hasn't 'made it' until porn adopts it.

Didn't read the link, but I now NaughtyAmerica is already doing POV VR porn.

AFK for 10 years until i can actually jack into (heh) the Rift and be with my waifu forever! Fuck reality!

How's the screendooring on the latest versions? I tried the Rift back when the DK1 came out and I was terribly off-put by that.

OK can you please explain screendooring to me? I have seen that a number of times and I don't get what it means

I'm really excited for VR in general (PSVR is the only one I'm likely to get the first year because of projected prices and my PC being average at best), however I have a major concern that I might be one of those people who can't use VR. Does anyone here who has tried any VR set (especially Oculus Rift though since this is the Rift thread) have nystagmus?

It's an eye condition where the eyes move horizontally by a small amount at all times, jittering back and forth slightly making slight adjustments. I worry that this won't work with the 3 dimensional display.

tl;dr the screen door effect is the 'gap between pixels'.

The fix for it is higher density pixels on the screens.

I don't really get the Touch. Sure, it's much better for VR than an Xbox controller but why not do something similar to the Power Glove? Sure, it was pretty shit at the time but they could have improved it.

Apparently it's really intuitive. Can't speak from personal experience though. I'd imagine a fully functional pair of gloves would be prohibitively expensive though (even more than the Rift...).

Personally, all I need is the shitty Wiimote and nunchuck (or the Move and offhand controller), then Rocksteady can use their WB cred to make a VR Harry Potter RPG...

    ...

ROFL. Never happening. Makes too much sense!

Oliver Kingston 90% certain Sony will have test stations set up around the world so you can try before you buy. No use in asking others about that, it's different for everyone.

Make sure you bring your own wet wipes!

I've been pretty sold on the Rift since playing with the Gear VR for my note. It's by no means perfect, but it's a really solid tech demo. Everyone I have shown it to has been incredibly impressed, despite the screen door effect that comes from using a damn phone for the screen.

Every time I pull it out I'm amazed.

....I really doubt we'll see a VR HP RPG considering we don't even have a non-VR one that is worth a damn.

What games would you guys really want to be on VR in the future? Not what you think will be on VR, but what you want to be on VR.

I mean pretty much all games for me would fit that category, especially horror, but one I would really love would be the next Elder Scrolls installment. Can you imagine playing/seeing Skyrim in VR?

    I'm hard already.

All cockpit games. Exploration and adventure too.

I don't think I want action or RPGs in VR, or rather, I'd prefer to play them with a controller and my massive screen.

Without a doubt, The Witness, more than halfway through this (or am I really?) on PS4 right now, and the fact that it won't have support on PSVR but will on Oculus Rift makes me very jealous of those who will be able to explore the amazing island in VR and solve gorgeous line mazes without any limit on their perception.

Also there are perspective based puzzles and I want to know if they will feel intuitive or not
