FF.net summary: Possibly one of the oddest LOTR love stories ever written. Set approximately six months after ROTK, all OCs, dooming me to obscurity, I know. Rated M for future updates, but NOT slash, I assure you!

    Absolution

My review: The author isn't kidding if she calls this story "odd"- or have you ever found a convincing description of a romantic relationship between an Uruk Hai and a human woman? Somehow, ChristineX pulls off this nearly impossible task, mainly through her supreme powers of characterisation. As should be the case in any human/orc fiction, there is also some juicy smut.

    And cover art too!

This was a fun read, not too fluffy and with a good flow. Grammar and spelling are excellent, as is the prose. I really liked this story a LOT.

    5/5

Oh, there is also a companion fic from Ulfakh's POV, narrated in first person. Short, but rounding out "Absolution".

    lol@rating your own post.

And no matter how well it's written, why would anyone even WANT to read that pairing?

It's a "deconstruction" of the concept of orcs-being-always-evil, which Tolkien struggled over justifying, or at least it would like to be. Not particularly very original with the forbidden-romance angle, but the Uruk is actually fairly sympathetic. His dialogue is a little too normal at times.

It's not particularly well-written. Bland and grammatically perfect, sure, but otherwise typical for the Lotr fandom. It's a short read though.

    3/5.

Here I must disagree- while our quality standards may differ, it's difinitely wrong that "Absolution" is typical for the writing quality in the LotR fandom. I don't know how you select your reading material or how frequently you dive into LotR fanfiction, but surley I don't have to remind you of all the "Legomance", "Tenth walker", self- insert and slash crap that fills up the Tolkien sector on ff.net.

ChristineX is more than one notch above that cesspool of failure.

You're forgetting that we don't count shit like that when judging the 'typical' HP/Dresden/LotR fics out there.
