As a rule of thumb, I usually hate self-inserts. I suspect it's the black comedy that makes this worthwhile reading - everything the SI does is utterly awful but I can't help myself laughing at it.

I haven't finished reading it yet, but I give it a preliminary 4/5.

 

I enjoyed this. The SI is a bit of a guy-Mary Sue and seems to be loosing his trademark soulless vampire evilness that he started out with. He seems to be building a harem, Faith, Amy and Harmony, which is annoying. The authors doesnt write Buffy very well. His Xander is okay. But the rest of the scoobies are eh.

The SI always seems to be right and Buffy is Wrong and Unreasonable a lot. Its pretty grating and verging on character bashing.

I did enjoy this though, but only coz SI fics are my guilty pleasure. 3/5.

 

Just read through the thread, and enjoyed it a fair bit - but Anya is spot on with the guilty pleasure aspects building as the story went on. It's an echo chamber thing: the people in the thread feel a certain way or keep making certain jokes, and the story morphs in response.

3/5 feels about right when you take that into account, which is always a little annoying when it starts out as a 4.

 

I have to disagree with you there. No way this is becoming a harem fic. The only woman he's show any interest in so far in the "family" is Harmony.
