Basically, I've been playing a lot of board games lately. I thought I'd see if anyone played often.

I will start with the games I've been loving.

Game of Thrones and second edition.
Takes about 3-8 hours. It is pretty similar to Diplomacy. There are two expansions, Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords, which make it 6 player (adding Martell) and 4 player (adding 'Ally' cards). The Storm of Swords expansion has an entirely different map, while the Clash of Kings expansion has an overlay. I have not yet played the second edition, which has a new map and some differences. I will be playing it tomorrow, though! 8 D

I've won the past 4 games, twice as Stark, once as Baratheon, and once as Greyjoy (who are a bit OP in the original, though supposedly toned down in the second edition).

Things get very very tense in this game, with backstabbing everywhere. I can post a more in depth analysis, but there is a lot of info on boardgamegeek already.

Another game I have been playing:

    Ticket to Ride.
There is a German version as well, which is also fun. I prefer the US version. This is obviously the game of trains. It's a light game, though definitely fun.
There is an online version which I've been meaning to try out. Would anyone be interested in playing with me?

    Kingsburg
Another shorter game. Dice are used, and there are supplies that you must obtain to build places which give you various benefits.

Stone Age is pretty fun as well.

I could go on, but I'd rather hear what you guys play.

In particular, if anyone plays GoT, I'd love to discuss it with them! :]

Lord of the Rings Risk (with the expansion pack) was always my poison. But I always found it not epic enough, so me and my brother invented our own rules and drew ourselves a load of map expansions to include Numenor, Valinor, Beleriand, and more of Harad. We made a load of traditional Risk-like Missions (e.g. eliminate the elves, capture Gondor, Rohan, and Arnor) and created a load of new roles for strongholds. Games could last for days with multiple massive armies. Was epic. Though looking back, I think we should have found a way to give combat more depth than dice rolling (though strongholds did this a bit).

Would definitely love to try out GoT. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who would play it with me, here or back in the UK.

About a year ago, I developed an unhealthy obsession with Settlers of Catan, specifically the Cities and Knights expansion. The downloadable version was $20, which I stil consider the best $20 I ever spent.

I have Ticket to Ride, but I've never played it.

It's a card game but Munchkin is simply loads of fun with tons of expansion packs out there.

Axis & Allies was my passion back in uni, along with other staples: Diplomacy, chess, go, Chinese chess, Risk, Trivial Pursuit.

Nowadays, I mostly play Scrabble and the occasional game of chess.

    Awesome: Puzzle Strike!

It's a whole bunch of fun for the entire family #mafia chan on dlpirc! Well, actually, only like, 5 of us play it (and I'm not sure if I could be considered a player since I haven't played much of it at all >_>). But it's so much fun!

I used to have A&A and Scrabble, both given to me from relatives; sadly I had no one to play them with, seeing that I wasn't close to my cousins (who're all older than me) and my friends weren't interested at all.

Nowadays I mostly play Scrabble, but again, it's hard to find others interested so I'm forced to play it online, i.e. Facebook. :(

Napoleon in Europe, that is a fucking glorious game. Think Risk but way more in depth.

My family's poison was Monopoly, until our mate John started to join in. He is the single luckiest bastard I've ever met when it comes to dice rolls. If he had two brain cells to rub together I'd have persuaded him into joining some tabletop RPG games I've played, just for his luck.

Still, Monopoly was literally poison for us. When John wasn't playing we could go for hours just waiting for someone to slip up, and there were no second chances in our games. We played like Wall Street bankers, even setting up banks and the likes where we could loan money to other players (and charge interest) if it was within our strategic interests to do so. Fuck those games were awesome.

After that we went on to Cluedo and Risk.

Settlers of Catan is probably my favorite board game. And when I wasn't playing the boardgame, I was playing it online I've got a munchkin boardgame as well, but I think I've only played it once. I have some obscure games as well, such as Titan and Epicus. Epicus is awesome, but the damned thing cost me like $170 at the Rennaissance Fair probably a dozen years ago. It has a lot of leather and pewter and is pretty fun with 4 people and good beer. Another favorite of mine is Heroquest, but getting enough people to play that is hard, and usually the only time when there is enough is during a D&D session, but then why would be play a watered down D&D boardgame when we are playing the real deal. Also have omega virus, which is good for it's entertainment factor. Same with Dungeon Quest. I have some other obscure ones but I just woke up and I'm not thinking straight.

I've actually made my own board game with a friend of mine. The original idea was to make a Pokemon board game, based on Talisman. This little nifty little idea spiralled a bit out of control, and became a two years project....

With a Pokemon-based battle system (150 original pokemon), Talisman board design, you're supposed to capture/train pokemon, complete the Guild Tour, defeat the E4, and finally, beat Ash - complete with side quests, pokemon lore and what not.

Definitely the best board game I've played :D
