Mine...exists. Slightly. I'm wondering whether the idea is actually enough to sustain even a one-shot, but we'll see. It'll depend on how much writing I manage to get done over Christmas itself...

 

Had virtually no time to write, but will post the first chapter and a half.

 

I will have at least a chapter or two if I can ever get my dialogue to sound right.

 

First chapter sounds about right at this point.

Is it better to extrapolate on history, or just give the basic run-down of the primary events, thus avoiding a complete redo of the seven-years like most rewrites of canon would show?

I'm aiming for the latter avoidance while still summing up the experiences that lead to Harry's progression, and bugger if it isn't jerking me around.

 

You could always drop the reader right in the middle, and just hint at past events.

Just started chapter 3 of my story. I had hoped to finish all eight of its chapters by the deadline, but a ridiculously overloaded work schedule effectively killed all hope of that.

Also; story 1 submitted. James/Snape!centric AU with good old Grindelwald at the helm of the wizarding world, circa 2.5k words.

That leaves story 2, HP/Halo/Metroid(/a thousand other fusions, maybe) to come. Oi.

edit: I should clarify that both James and Snape are the main characters, not that they're butt-buddies. Shit, I need to pay more attention to how I post this stuff.

EDIT 2: And... story 2 submitted. 5.5k words, pretty unhappy with everything after the first chapter but at this point, it's not going to improve much even if I tried to write all day the next few days.

And Edit 3: Son of a bitch 500'd on my first attempt to post that second story. I thankfully had everything copied beforehand and could paste it back to try again, but both were apparently successfully posted. Hopefully the staff will kill the spare.

 

Only a couple of days left, guys, and so far just three submissions- two of which are mine, and I'm fairly sure they're shite to be honest, so don't feel afraid to crank something out and make this an actual competition!

 

I'm trying, but God knows that I am apparently incapable of getting this damn crossover to sound right. The curse of the amateur author strikes again!

The deadline was yesterday; there's always been a bit of a gap. Patience dude!

 

Does anyone know what's going on for January? Maybe it can be comprised of the Christmas one-shots.

 

@Voice of the Nephilim - Some of that one-shot are already circulating.

I propose to change a little the contest. Lets add Dresden Files. January/February could be pure Dresden Files stories, than March/April pure Harry Potter, and so forth. IMO it will add some variety to the contest.

 

We must add Pokemon too then

 

Maybe a single other-fandoms month, if that's logistically feasible, but mixing up fandoms long term would kill it, I think.

Or at least kill a shedload of the interest in it.

 

I wouldn't mind a single Other Fandoms contest. Might even give me the impetus to rewrite the 50,000 words of a Dragon Age: Origins fic I wrote a couple years back.

More to the point I would like to know what January is...

 

I'm all for an Others category this month. It would be a nice change of pace from trying to crank out a Potter themed concept.

 

I'd just be down for a new category. I mean, we still haven't had romance as a category, and if we're going to do a January/February contest, it makes a bit of sense from a Valentine's Day perspective.

 

As long as prior knowledge of a fandom isn't assumed, I think that would be cool. Well, I suppose you could just dive into something without helping the reader along, but I'm sure there will be a judge out there who has no idea what's going on and will rate you low for it.
