I'd be up for a month for other fandoms, if only because I've got a Firefly/Cowboy Bebop I've been looking for an excuse to dust off, but silverlasso does have a point. And quite apart from reviewers, I know I generally steer clear of crossovers if I don't know much about the other fandom, however good it might be.

 

Would it help to just link to the fandom in questions Wiki(/a) site in your authors note at the top? It might be a little lazy, but it would certainly ensure what facts you intend to put in can be reviewed easily and insure no one is left scratching their head at the end in confusion.

 

It won't cover everything though. Someone might write a character completely wrong, and the judge might not catch it, being unfamiliar with the universe.

@All you contest veterans: if there is a January contest, will the deadline still be on 1st Feb, or pushed back?

 

The past year suggests it will be pushed due to no post.

 

I don't think other fandom's is a good idea. There are maybe three I would read legit, and that's Dresden Files, Hobbit/Lord of the Rings and Firefly. Honestly, if I saw stuff from like Bleach, FSN, Pokemon, Naruto, etc.. I wouldn't even click to open them. There would be no sense of familiarity in them, unlike a crossover which, when done properly, can immerse you in the new fandom and get you hooked. Reading a pure fic in a fandom you know nothing about is a recipe for disaster. And how are the judges supposed to judge something they're not familiar with?

So, I'm proposing Indy!Harry, the hardest genre of them all to get right.

Okay, I feel it's fair to resurrect this question: are there going to be any more contests? Do we have a topic, a deadline, anything?

 

How about an End of January/February/March competition with a free for all Dresden Files theme? Something different and plenty of time to write it? Or, like Anarchy suggested, how about indy!Harry?

 

We're cooking up something - something different, which will be revealed soon, Feb 1st at the latest. Although I can already say it'll be HP only.

 

I should hope so, because I've been clamouring to join the culture for more than nine months and find this my best opportunity

 

I think a HP/DF crossover competition would be absolutely awesome, but I know whatever you guys are cooking up is going to be great anyway. I'm eagerly awaiting this.

 

I've been waiting. Posting shorts in TGYH can only help me improve so much and a decent challenge or whatever it is in the works is exactly what I need to keep me busy in between classwork.
