    Hey DLP,

What do you want for Christmas? More stories to read? Me too! That's why we're bringing back the DLP Short Story Competition.

The competition provides a prompt/first line/theme, a word limit, and a deadline to authors. Authors submit their stories to a designated moderator, they're posted anonymously, and reviewed/scored by the community. The competition will be held on a regular basis (we're thinking monthly right now, but we'll see).

Winning entries will receive ultimate DLP bragging rights as well as a forum badge.

Some details TBD, but here's what you need to know for the first competition:

Prompt: Harry discovers why Albus doesn't drink
    Word limit: 10k
    Deadline: 27th of December.

Entries should be sent to Xiph0 via private message. Xiph0 will post them anonymously in the Story Competitions forum, where users will vote on them. Instructions for voting will be in a sticky thread in the forum once entries are posted.

Dust off your muses and break out the fireball DLP, because Albus is thirsty and the night is young.

Feel free to ask questions in this thread.

Finally, a shout out to Sorrows who badgered us into making this happen and organized much of the process. Without her, this wouldn't have happened any time soon. :)

For those of us not inclined to writing, would we be able to suggest a prompt or -- ?

You can suggest prompts for future competitions but the prompt is set for December.

Will we be voting best story only, or does everyone make a top 3 or something?

    Will genres be separated?

I’m stupid. I’m guessing we just use the tried and true 5 star scale?

All stories will be thrown together and reviewed by everyone. We'll set out a reviewing guideline with scores in various categories for better comparability. We'll only count reviews by users who have reviewed every story.

More details will follow when it's time to review.

Yeah, that pretty much destroys the point of anonymity.

Wait, is the limit at least 10.000 words, or at most 10.000 words?

@Lord Twain At most, you can use as few words as you like.

Have you implemented the badge reward for contest winner? Maybe I'm just dense and don't know what I'm looking for, but I'm pretty sure Joe and James don't have any kind of badge showed around their avatar to denote their win.

Huh, I hadn't thought of that. At present the award for participating is that voters are required to provide useful feedback and the reward for winning is picking a prompt for the next competitions poll.

If a badge or something is a bit much or difficult I wonder if it'd be possible to implement something on the profile page? That way if someone won more than once I guess it could update to reflect that, etc. I really don't know what is or isn't possible with the forum software.

For anyone looking for the current competition, here it is. Prompt is vampires.
