Yup they regulary attack each other.
You could see it in snape worse memory how snape tailing the marauders after OWL, why would he do it if he didn't intend to do something to them.

 

He definitely never should have been made a teacher for sure, but then again, Dumbledore does make dubious staff appointments. He played favorites, terrorized children, and was very petty by taking out his anger against his childhood nemesis on an orphaned child who couldn't even remember his father. Maybe being a jerk and being evil is different but if there is a line between them Snape was very close to crossing it. I mean, I would say an educator taking advantage of his position was plenty evil in itself. His actions as a spy certainly were very helpful in winning the war in the end and he did end up dying for it, but if I were in Harry's place I don't know if I would've named my child after him.

 

In my opinion? No, not at all. In the world of HP, where LOVE is the strongest magic/power of all? Maybe. It at least made him slightly, very slightly, less awful and more relatable.
