I kind of liked this fic when it first came out. It's Hitsugaya-centric and is pre-canon. Unfortunately the author stopped updating a while ago .

This is one of the better Bleach fics on fanfiction.net so I thought I'd throw it up here and see what people think of it. If anyone's ever perused the Bleach section on ff.net, you'd know that pretty much all of it is terrible, terrible stuff that don't even deserve 1/5, so in that respect I find that this one stands out as being decent.

So I think I'll give this 4/5.

I remember this story. It was pretty damn good. Dragged on at places, lacked some necessary perverted humor (a requirement in ALL Bleach stories), but was ultimately very good. Like you, I'm saddened that it no longer updates. A good 4.5/5, definitely worth a reread.

 

For a Bleach fic, the writing is quite good. Most of those I find are heavily pairing-oriented, so this is refreshing. It being Hitsu-centric, though, means it might not be for everyone.

Other than the question about when the next update will come, I also wonder how long it'd take to reach canon storyline. After Hitsu reached his captaincy, there isn't very much to base off before that.

 

Read it a while back and loved it. The scene where he finally unleashes his bankai is awesome. Ice dragon ftw!

 

Shame it's not updated. Also there's not much plot beyond Toushiro growing in Soul Society, but it's all good.

 

I have a feeling that's why it hasn't been updated.

 

Well apparently the author has some stuff going on in his/her life that keeps em too busy. I don't think the story is meant to reach all the way out to canon though. Since the author feels compelled to stick close to canon, this story I think would be strictly pre-canon only.

 

This is an old favourite of mine and one of the very few Bleach stories I still bother reading. Admittedly I'm biased since Hitsugaya ticks the right boxes for me; a young genius, ice powers and dragons.

Frozen Sky explores Hitsugaya's journey from when he first entered Seireitei to become a Shinigami up until he becomes a Captain of the Gotei 13. Its appeal is the exploration of the relationship between Shinigami and Zanpakuto which I've always found one of the more interesting parts of the Bleach lore. Hitsugaya's one of the youngest prodigies in Seireitei's history and Hyourinmaru is the strongest ice-and-water element Zanpakuto, fueling his rapid ascension through the ranks of the Gotei 13 in spite of looking like a child the entire time.

We only got the bare bones of that relationship with Ichigo and Zangetsu from shikai and bankai and when Kubo started looking Zanpakuto in depth again, he ruined like he did most of Bleach in the end.

This one, however, better explores the nature of Hyourinmaru, how Hitsugaya discovers its name, learns it powers and eventually learned to materialize and subjugate it for reach the final stage. And naturally, that leads to Hitsugaya becoming a Captain himself.

The story's best read in conjunction with the companion fic, Facets, which takes a step outside of Hitsugaya's perspective to deal with other characters. They're written well enough that I'd have preferred them to have been used as interludes in the main story or ending scenes on the existing chapters for sheer convenience.

Unfortunately this fic has long been abandoned and and doesn't have the most interesting stopping point but it successfully covers the most important parts of Hitsugaya's past.
