    From the game's steam page:

"Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16*bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale."

Hyper Light Drifter is essentially an homage to Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past. It features the same control scheme, exploration and fighting themes.

Instead of a light hearted atmosphere however, you get semi post-apocalyptic visuals, brooding atmopsphere and lovecraftian overtones, filled with ruined buildings, dead/dying people and tons and tons of monsters.

The fighting part has a Dark Souls-light feel to it (=it's actually quite challenging). Enemies and their tactics vary and they never take pity on you. Each area has its own group of unique enemies.

There is a basic power-up purchasing system, allowing you to update your most basic stuff, like your sword and gun, your grenade, your health and your dodging move. I would have liked more options here, but they work.

A questionable part of the game is that it contains no text, apart from the menus. All the story (the little there is) is given through pictures. But, in the end, I found it didn't detract much, if any, from the games quality. On the contrary, it was, at least for me, a welcome respite from text-heavy games - I play a lot of RPGs.

So go get this. I played it for a couple hours with mouse & keyboard and then I actually went and bought a gamepad, just for this game. Totally worth it.
