We have the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC is making one of their own.

There will also be new Star Wars movies, ensuring a Star Wars cinematic universe.

Even Harry Potter is getting the Fantastic Beasts movies!

But let me ask you this, DLP, what else could benefit from movie adaptations and a Cinematic Universe treatment? Doesn't have to be live-action, but it would be nice.

    Here are my propositions:

    90s/00s Cartoon Network Cinematic Universe

    Dexter's Laboratory
    Powerpuff Girls
    Johnny Bravo
    Ed, Edd n Eddy
    Codename: Kids Next Door
    Courage the Cowardly Dog
    Time Squad
    Samurai Jack
Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
    Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
    Ben 10

    Lovecraft Mythos Cinematic Universe

    Call of Cthulhu
    Shadow over Innsmouth
    Rats in the Walls
    Colour out of Space
    Shadow out of Time
    The Dunwich Horror
    At the Mountains of Madness
    The Whisperer in the Darkness

    Post your own suggestions!

How on Earth would the Cartoon Network one work? There's so many different things going on in each of those that it would be a massive clusterfuck. Well, I could see a few of them getting along together, but not all at once.

Most of these have had crossovers and at least cameos between each other.

In fact, probably all of them.

    The Cosmere books.

Elantris and Warbreaker as standalone films.

    The first Mistborn trilogy.

Once they've been done, Wax and Wayne get the miniseries treatment, as does Secret History.

In the meantime, once Warbreaker has been done, The Stormlight Archive can be started.

The Disney and Pixar movies kinda work in the same universe, right?

Think you could put stuff like W.I.T.C.H., Totally Spies, Jake Long, Juniper Lee, Ben 10, Danny Phantom, Kim Possible also in the same universe, but that's more for fanfic purposes.

Eh, like I said, some definitely could work with one another but I don't think Dexter's Lab really matches up with KND or Foster's, for example. Granted I'm probably overthinking it.

I could see some sort of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen universe, with new adaptations of The Invisible Man, Dracula, etc. all eventually tying into a LoEG reboot. You could probably use the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films as a basis even (if RDJ really wanted to get involved with yet another big interlinked film endeavor...)

Alternately, a Hammer Horror type deal with Dracula, Frankenstein and the Mummy.

I seem to recall Universal was at least attempting to make their monster franchises into a cinematic universe. So Frankenstein, Mummy, Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc. I think that awful Dracula Untold movie was supposed to be a part of it, but I'm not sure it actually will be.

Dexter had cameos in both Powerpuff Girls and Time Squad.

Bloo from Foster's Imaginary Friends also had a cameo in Powerpuff Girls.

Codename: Kids Next Door had a cameo in Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

Basically, there's a clear established universe :nyan:

Not that it's very important, mind you. Comic books often contradict each other and yet here we have the Marvel Cinematic Universe ;)

Could the hypothetical cinematic universes have hypothetical movies as well?

Because a Middle Earth Cinematic Universe with additional movies would be awesome. While it will never happen, one can dream.

These are the movies that I can think of on top of my head:

The Lord of the Rings, Three Movies

    The Hobbit, One long Movie

The Silmarillion, Six standalone but loosely connected films that cover some portions of the Silmarillion (sort of like the MCU)

    The Rebellion of the Noldor
    Beren and Luthien
    The Children of Hurin
    The Fall of Gondolin
The Voyage Of Earendil/The War of Wrath
    The Downfall of Numenor

Appendixes, ??? movies (There are tons of things that could be made into movies, for example, the Rise of Angmar or a movie about the Elves and Dwarves during the War of the Ring)

I want the Cosmere Cinematic Universe so bad.

Another hypothetical universe would be Worm. With a series a remote possibility, the story can spawn a Hypothetical universe

Las Vegas Protectorate. - it would be completely different from every other superhero movie.
Faultline's Crew as they go about their mercenary business.
    Rise of the Triumvirate.
    The Original Wards.
    The Travellers.
The Old Brockton Bay crowd. Showing the times of Allfather, Marquis, The Teeth, Brockton Bay Brigade etc

Another idea would to set the stories after the end of canon where even more possibilities exist.
    A Lung movie.
    The Wardens.
    The Undersiders.
A Bitch movie exploring the wilds where she is living in. etc

World of Darkness Cinematic Universe. Done right, it could even support few TV shows.

Matrix, maybe? It already sort of started to have one with Animatrix.

I honestly feel like 90% of Sanderson's books wouldn't do well as films, given the complexity of their worlds. Premium TV series would be awesome though.

Stormlight/Mistborn with the HBO treatment? Yas plz.

    SCP Foundation could work.

You could have many stories set in that world.

Heh, I feel Mistborn is better suited as films than TV series. Something about the series just screams big screen to me. Book one is the heist movie, book 2 the war movie and book 3 the apocalyptic movie. It has all the makings of a successful blockbuster series of 3 -5 movies. Also the fight scenes in the books are just too cinematic and would be too expensive to properly adapt for anything other than a blockbuster.

On the other hand a Wax and Wayne series with the HBO treatment would be fantastic. The fights are not as big as Mistborn and the story can work as a serialized procedural.

Stormlight I think would be best as an animation and in an ideal world would be done by Ufotable. A second best option would be the HBO treatment.

And one acid trip called the Ainulindalë.

Clearly a Middle earth cinematic universe will not be happening for a very long time but you're right that there's some incredible stories that could be told. I think the ones I'd like to see most would be Children of Hurin and the Downfall of Numenor. If ever there were stories to put the lie to the claim that Tolkien's world was too noble I think those are they.

What about a movie that takes place over the year between the awakening of Durin's Bane and the abandonment of Moria? The creeping horror, and fire in the deeps.

Or the tale of Nimrodel and Amroth, their fear of the future and eventual flight to the west only to lose each-other and themselves.

What about the rise of Elrond, the fall of Gil-Galad, his marriage to Celebrían then the loss when she sails into the West?

The story of Celebrimbor's desire to impress Galadriel and his turn to the charismatic stranger in Annatar who promised that through craft he could gift her what she wished for most of all; a Middle earth untouched by the ravages of time. The birth of the Rings of Power. (Now that I think about it, the Silmarils were Feanor's attempt to impress Galadriel... girl must have game).

The quest of Fram to free his people from the danger of Scatha the Worm, then his greed when he discovers the horde, and finally his downfall at the hands of angry Dwarves.

The life of Eorl the Young, the death of his father and taming of Felaróf. The call from a besieged Gondor and the Oath and founding of Rohan.

The Long Winter and the last days of Helm Hammerhand. Trying to stave off political attempts by Freca to take control of Rohan upon Helm's death by marrying Helm's daughter to his son Wulf. The siege of Helm's Deep where Helm killed many of the besiegers with his bare hands, only to eventually die not from enemy action, but the cold. Found the following morning frozen still standing ready to fight the interlopers.

And I could really go on. Though I do notice that a lot of these are either bitter sweet or downright tragedies.

In a world where Guillermo del Toro successfully adapted The Hobbit or Peter Jackson's production wasn't so insanely complicated, further Middle-Earth movies might be on the table.

Or we'll get a Lord of the Rings remake in a few decades, who knows. :\
