On the front page of the Sunday Times today there's an article about how Rowling "considered suicide" back when she was depressed, over 10 years ago.

Several conclusions to be drawn:

1. She really is an attention whore who has an addiction to being in the news.
2. How is this a worthy news item in any way?
3. Even were this newsworthy, how the hell is it on the front page?
4. JKR must be paying people off at The Times to bump the stories about her to the front page.

I'll edit in a link when I find one.

The year after her first book is published? I can see why she was so depressed, so stop being so mean to her. She's just a poor misunderstood woman who had just made a momentous achievement. Of course she was feeling vulnerable and sad and such.

You ever feel like we're being ungrateful to her? Nah, me neither.

Hmm. A single mother in her twenties trying to make ends meet.

/me nods

This was probably the age when she got the characterization of one of her most prominent characters down.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, I suppose.

It does say that a friend paid 600 for her rent's downpayment. . .

:::

Heh. She had so much success with her books, that she has now gotten to celebrity status. As disinteresting as this is, it has reached a point where the news will love airing any form of 'dirty laundry' she may have.

People will read and sympathize, suburban mothers will speak ill of her along with any gossip they may have, and we just look on as another slow Sunday morning progresses.

The tabloids perhaps, but I would have expected better from The Times.

It's hardly fresh news. I've had her biography years, and it goes through everything from her depression to teaching English to ugly Spanish kids.

BORING. It's normal to consider suicide, right?

Only joking :D
I don't know if it's normal, but I've thought about it once or twice. Never seriously though.

How the fuck is this front page material? Is The Times the equivalent of the New York Post or something?

The Times is usually a very good newspaper.

But no one is above bribery.
No one. <_<

Also, this shit is page 10 material, not page 1. The fact that it was on the front page is disgusting.

Are we going to have Rowling's head popping up in shit-rags every three months for the next forty years?

Kill me now. And yes, pun intended.

If she contemplated killing herself while being a single mother... well, she's a bigger bitch than I thought. I feel sorry for her children.

Suicidal thoughts generally go hand-in-hand with depression. I went through it, too. But I was sixteen at the time. I wasn't caring for a child. Fuck you JK, fuck you.

"Look at me...I wanted to commit suicide"

What's fucking next?

"Look at me...I'm a closet latex bondage gear fetishist with a thing for horse cock."

Definitely an attention whore. She's probably an emo bitch just wanting attention, and thrives in it like flies on shit. It's rather sad to see people go down this far in society (especially in the US where it's rampant). The public just eat this up and feel sorry for her, then she glorifies in it like a lost child or some such.

Who cares? Unless she tried it and failed, this thought should have stayed in her head.

If she failed at suicide...well you can't fail harder than failing at failing.

I know what several readers of this thread are thinking right now.

"Why didn't she commit suicide after the <random number> book."

"If you try and fail, try again. If you don't bother trying, you're an idiot"

If Only JK followed that sage advice.

Personally, it woulda been good if she had suicided after book 4. We get Fleur, Gabrielle, Voldemort, Cedric dead...it's Win Freakin Win!
