I think it likely that "short story" is not going to be a correct description. They said the same thing about the Rita Skeeter article. This will likely either be an extended Pottermore entry that is encyclopaedic in nature, or an "in-universe" material like Rita Skeeter's article was (a Ministry of Magic internal memo, perhaps?).

If it is a genuine short story I'll be pleasantly surprised.

 

What Taure said and I also think JK should stop this silly dance she's doing. First in the Greatest Retcon Hits was "Dumbledore's Gaaaaaaay", then somewhere down the line we got "Harmony Forever". I think she should let Harry Potter rest in peace. I don't even remember what the Skeeter article was about anymore.

If you want to stay relevant, writing something new, woman! We'll still love HP, I promise.

 

This is all my fault. I did this. In the thread about the Rita Skeeter short story, I said:

Eh, I'm not too optimistic that it's going to be anything decent (it's Umbridge-centric for fucks sake) but unlike a lot of people I don't really care if JKR keeps adding to HP. It's like the Star Wars EU - ignore it if its shit (I'm already doing this for most of Pottermore), but occasionally something interesting could come of it. As long as she doesn't pull a Lucas and try to revise canon, she can do whatever she wants.

Off topic, but what is the prevailing theory on what happened to Blaise? I've always been curious as to what happened there.

Or maybe she already had horcruxes, hence her (relative) lack of a soul in canon, and now that Voldemort is gone, she realizes her errors?

At any rate, it's an idea for a crack!fic.

Do you know what this means? Every single story where a character recognizes the quill as "A Blood Quill, I heard of them, they are banned!" has just been invalidated and de-canonized.

Ha, her mother's a muggle and her father's a glorified janitor. I just found those two little factoids hilarious.

 

It also gives us a new bit of information regarding the Ministry, we now know there is a Department of Magical Maintenance.

 

We knew that already, from OotP when Mr Weasley describes to Harry how the fake windows in the Ministry depicted rain for a month when the caretakers were on strike.

 

Of course she's a Slytherin. Wouldn't want to make it seem like they do anything but churn out villains.

 

She was in Slytherin. So was Malfoy. I tell you, Hufflepuffs rule the world and no one's noticed yet. Badgers FTW.

 

Personally, I would have found it hilarious if it turns out she was a Hufflepuff.
