Did I miss something? Where does it say 6?

I think Taure has hit his head and doesnt understand that somethings are not said because they are kinda obvious. I mean Aurors have to learn everything in Hogwarts.

I see no canon evidence to back your statement. What little canon we have (Tom Riddle) weighs in against you. See- HBP. When Riddle and Slughorn are talking about the horcruxes, Slughorn says there is a spell that creates them. He also says it is a banned subject at Hogwarts. Slughorn is a Hogwarts graduate. He knew what horcruxes were, and that there is a spell to make them. That is canon evidence that not only did Voldemort continued learning after Hogwarts, but so did Slughorn.

If you are talking about the Unforgivables, then you are wrong. Crouch taught them with special permission from Dumbledore. Only the students who were taught by Crouch knew them.

Also, about the whole Master thing- I always thought it was just an honorary title given to a teacher. I mean, Snape is technically a Potions master in the medieval sense of the word because he has apprentices- his students. I don't think it has anything to do with actual skill.

    6 horcruxes.

And yet, Tom Riddle made 2 of his horcruxes while he was a student and Hogwarts.

Anyway, this is blown out of proportion.

I'm not saying some people don't learn anything out of Hogwarts. Obviously, there are a few jobs that have a bit of training that go with them. No, what I am saying is that James and Sirius wouldn't have learnt anything out of Hogwarts, and neither did Snape. The only post-Hogwarts education there is is specialised vocational training, e.g. auror or healer. Snape was a teacher. Hogwarts professors are given no extra training.

No, I'm taliking about all kinds of Dark Arts, though the unforgivables are inlcuded in this.

You know, I could have sworn I once read an interview with JKR and she said that there isn't that many spells in the wizarding world. Most of what they would need to know is taught at Hogwarts and that every spell we see by the end is about what the wizarding world has. I think it is purely a fanon concept of "stronger versions of spells," and that there is more to be taught. If the wizarding world has a petrifying charm, they don't need a stronger one when the 1st one still does the job, which is why I think there is a limited amount of curses, hexes, jinxes, charms, etc.

Cause when you think about, Dumbledore and Voldemort didn't do anything out of the ordinary during the DoM fight. Dumbledore probably used NEWT level animation spell, a powerful Incendio, levitated the water, and did something to make it harden (I think he hardened it). Voldemort mostly threw AKs around and apparated.

Anyway, onto the actual topic of the thread:

You will have to forgive me, I only read OOTP and HBP once each, so my info is a little hazy.

Out of all the people listed I think Snape is the best overall. Sure, James and Sirius are talented and are probably unbeatable when working as a team, but in a one-on-one fight, I think Snape wins.

Snape has already shown to be a talented dueler. I mean you have to be talented to deflect Unforgivables as he did with Harry. His Legilimency and Occlumency make him an even better dueler. Dumbledore explained that those two mind arts are very obscure and frowned upon by most people. So I don't think a large majority of wizards know Legilimency to help them duel.

I also think it is stated by Sirius that in his 1st year Snape knew more curses and hexes than most 7th year students. So, I believe he also beats them in the knowledge department.

Back with my argument up top about the limited amount of spells in the wizarding world. I think it is possible Snape got into spell creation because he learned all the spells he could possibly learn, if it is true that their aren't massive amounts of spells.

Lily is right behind Snape. I think that the only think Snape has on her is spell creation, but we won't know cause it hasn't been canon proofed if she created spells or not. Has it actually been stated that Lily was exceptional at Charms? I know Ollivander said her wand was good for Charm work, but was she actually talented at it?

And Slughorn already said she was the most brilliant potions student he ever had, I think. If he said that does that mean she surpassed Snape in potions?

    Yes! Thank you :)

It also makes sense when you think of it in terms of languages. Think verbs. Each verb represents an action. For example:

    To summon
    To kill
    To copy
    To fly
    To protect.

    And so on.

You could say that for every verb, a spell is possible.

    Summoning charm
    Killing curse
    Duplicating charm
    Flying charm
    Sheild charm

There are only so many verbs in a language if you exclude synonyms. You could have about 500 spells and cover every possible action one can think of.

Not explicitly, no. Most people take what Ollivander said about her wand to mean she was good at charms, the same way that they take what Ollivander said about James' wand to indicate that he was good at transfiguration.

Either that or he just liked her better. I should imagine that its a mix of both.

Okay Like Ive been saying They Learned EVERYTHING,EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING(did I say everything) in Hogwarts.
The idea of so few spells is just a screwed up idea that JKR pulled outta that place where her babies come from since her ass is empty of em now.
The wizarding world must be one boring ass place.

But hell Hogwarts has everything one would need why leave. I mean seriously everything from sex-ed --- "I wanna learn how to blow stuff up with my mind."

"Headmaster we need a class on how to cast spells that would heighten sexually pleasure. Oh dont forget we need the books too."
"Of Course Ms. Granger we will contact the book store right away. Who should be the teacher."
"How about Professor Snape? Taure says he knows everything known to Wizarding Kind."
" Good idea Ms. Granger. I will inform the Professor to prepare for class Monday."

Okay another thing thats been buggin me. How do Fred and George compare(this isnt just power).

I mean they aint stupid like their younger brother.

Ever heard of a Library? Like, you know, the biggest one in Britain, sitting right there in Hogwarts? The one holding books on all areas of magic, including the Dark Arts? The one where 6th and 7th year defence students are allowed to browse the Restricted Section freely?

Like I said above, Slughorn said that there are banned subjects at Hogwarts. Riddle didn't know about the horcruxes until Slughorn (who learned it outside of Hogwarts) told him. Since Slughorn didn't know the spell, Tom probably went indy and learned it during the summer. The very fact that there are banned subjects at Hogwarts, however, implies that not all magic is learned there.

Taure, get over it, Hogwarts does not teach everything there is to know about magic. Sorry, but it is so completely illogical that I am surprised you have even been sticking with such a stupid argument. Wizards learn things after Hogwarts. I am not sure whether there are true titles given such as 'master' or 'adept' or anything like that but by the time Hermione fucking Granger gets out of Hogwarts- even though she is going to get straight O's- she is not going to know every fucking thing there is to know about magic. End of discussion buddy.

    Agreed.

    Enough Said.
And oh yeah bout Tom only doing 6 rituals. How did he look snake like when he came for the DADA job? I am wanting to say that Tom said he went further along the path of immortality than anyone which to me implies rituals.

    OK.

Tell me one thing that a person can't do by the time they leave Hogwarts.

Just one thing (within the rules of magic of course).

Okay Taure. FIDELUS(someone tell me if screwed up the spelling which Im sure I did) They found it after Hogwarts. Mostly unknown. The magic that Dumbledore used to protect Harry. The magic lily used to protect Harry.

If everyone could do the Fidelus, Tom wouldnt be able to kill so many families and burn down houses BECAUSE everyone would use it

But ofcourse everything is learned at Hogwarts just ask yourself Taure.

And yet he got how to do it from Professor Slughorn who found it outside of the school. He didn't find it in the Library. It is not in the Library. We win, you lose, end this thread.

EDIT: I'm pretty positive he learned it from Slughorn Lorelei. But Slughorn certainly didn't find it in the NEVERENDING HOGWARTS LIBRARY OF ALL THE MAGICAL KNOWLEDGE OF GOD!!!!111!!!1one!!111!!!!

We don't know if that's in the library or not.

Learning it from a teacher counts as learning it during Hogwarts years.

The reason for this whole "magic at Hogwarts" argument is to say whether or not Sirius and James would have learnt stuff post-Hogwarts. Tom Riddle did not learn horcruxes post-Hogwarts.
