    Logan.

First one had a really good opening sequence, but the rest was rather bad.

The second one was 2/3 really good, but the finale went into a wrong direction with its gigantic robot. While on some meta level it worked since it was Japan, in my opinion it hardly fit the rest of the film.

This one though could be a exceptional as long as they keep it consistent for its entire runtime. No CGI finale and keeping it grounded when it comes to superpowers by avoiding more showy ones would be a start.

Wasn't there already a Wolverine movie set in Japan? Or is this another reboot?

Edit: Never mind misunderstood your post. And thought that this is another new trailer for this movie.

Looks kinda shit to be honest.

I'm completely down with the idea of a more down-to-earth Wolverine story focusing on a small-scale, personal conflict. The tone of the story, from the trailer, looks exactly right.

What I'm not down for is getting rid of mutant powers in order to tell that personal story. Nerfing Wolverine's healing power and generally telling the story in a world where the mutants are "gone" - that's too far. It removes the primary reason to watch an X-Men story in the first place. I want a gritty, personal story about a person with powers, not a gritty, personal story about a person without powers. If I wanted the latter I could go see literally any drama/thriller.

Some would argue that removing Wolverine from any X-Men story is like removing the primary reason to watch a film about mutants, not the other way around. ;)

Normally, I'm against nerfing powers of the characters, but this time I'm fine with it since the point is to tell a story about Logan finally getting old and tired.

So this is main xmen timeline again, right? Post Wolverine 2, but pre DoFP?

Or is this the distant future after the DoFP happy ending?

It's original timeline, post-DoFP. Which makes very little sense.

So...timeline split? Logan has adamantium claws, so his Japan adventure apparently never happened either.

The weapon x program still happened in dofp timeline. It just happened offscreen. See xmen apoc. So it still works if you assume dofp was after The Wolverine, that he somehow got his claws back before dofp, and that that movie too was negated.

I think a story about the X-Men having to cope without powers sounds pretty interesting.

This all sounds confusing as shit. Did the happy ending of DoFP stay in effect, or did Apocalypse negate it? I never watched it.

I think the point of this is that it happens a long time after DoFP and its happy ending. Logan is old. His healing powers still work but instead of producing brand new skin, produce scarred skin. He still heals but not as efficiently.

This is maybe 100 or 200 years post DoFP finale. Question is why is Xavier still alive? Psychic mutant power hax.

I read a comment on youtube (can't find a link to see if it's legit though), that stated that it's taking place in 2024.

I think you're probably right. Which hopefully means no 'Jean is dead boo hoo' angst.

I think they need a movie dedicated just to explaining the fucking timelines. Because yes, this is apparently set in 2024.

Looks like they're mashing up elements of Old Man Logan, House of M and Second Coming. Could be interesting, but on the basis of the last two I'm not expecting great things - although Stewart tends to make anything he's in at least a bit better.

A bit of explanation from the director.

I like the tone of it quite a bit, and hope they explain why all the mutants are basically gone. I like how someone on reddit referred to it - "The Last of Us, Mutant Edition."

Given that Mr Sinister is supposed to be the villain, I'd assume that he's done some genetic mad science to turn off people's powers.

I thought logan's trailer was pretty good. I saw the red band. I am not sure of the timeline or how it fits with the rest. That is the problem with time travel, it screws everything up.

No idea on the timeline, but I'm pretty sure powers aren't gone in this. Not in the way some of you are talking about, at least. There's a scene in the trailer that I'd bet money is Professor X stopping a bunch of people from moving right before Logan starts in on them.

My bet is something happened to kill off most of the mutants, and either new ones are hunted down right away or a "cure" was found to prevent new ones from being born.
