He said "usually" passes down the mother's side I believe.

There's always the possibility of exceptions to that rule.

Fingers crossed. It'll be a more interesting story if the kid is a chip off the ol'block. On the other hand, that'll be just one more super-powered woman in Harry's life... Susan, Molly, Lara, Murphy-if-she-ever-picks-up-the-fucking-sword, all the Faerie Queens, Leah... Personally, i think he's got enough of those.

Actually, from what we know about the Fae, they seem fairly capable of creating a Post-Apoc setting.

Oh, it has been stated that only Human magic can mess with the Outside. In DB I think, when they talked about the Reds having Outsiders.

Also, I'd have to call bullshit on a kid having the power to threaten the WC, Fae Courts, and evenyone else who likes the way the world is. And even if it did, I'd have to call even more bullshit on it having survived to be six(?) if it did. Seems like the thing somebody would notice.

LC: A six year old that acted like Harry? Yeah, no.

A six year old girl who has all of Harry's personality traits would be an amusing counter-point to Ivy; a six year old girl who has all of Harry's power would only be bad writing.

Why would we need a six year old version of Harry, when Harry has his own 6 year old moments. Basically anytime he is obviously in way over his head and still has the energy he has a 6 year old moment.

Why would a six-year old girl act like a man in his forties?

Nah, IIRC he says that it tends towards that but that it could also pop up very randomly as well. I'm pretty sure that was mentioned when he was speaking to Michael about Molly.

Edit: Ninja'd by like 6 hours. Reading Failure.

Why would a six year old act like the Queen of the Librarians? I certainly didn't anticipate Ivy.

It's a fantasy, anything could happen, and only Butcher knows what's planned.

I'm not really working with just pure magical power here, I'm thinking hellish intervention and long ago foretold prophecy. Things like that generally wipe the floor with powerful figures (both good and evil) and will almost certainly have various deux ex machina at their disposal, since the best way to make an impression is to take out one of the more powerful people in the world when you announce yourself.

Because someone (ie. her mom) funneled the sum total of Human Knowledge into her head?

Aekiel: Sounds like a bad fanfic.

True, but I never said the idea was going to be any good. Especially when you're comparing a story to Dead Beat.

    I'm leaning towards number three.

4 1/2. While trying to save the kid, some random freak accident happens and he ends up saving Susan instead. Cue FML.

It was during the Michael/Molly conversation, just after Molly got saved from execution, and it went something along the lines of:

Michael: Doesn't magic pass down through the Mother?
Harry: (oh shit oh shit oh shit) err well.. usually but it can pop up randomly (phew crisis averted)

Remember he was trying to steer Michael away from Charity + Magic = Molly's Ability, train of thought.

IMO if the kid had power, it'd be power over Harry, in a "I have a convenient ritual cause I'm a baddy, and imma kill your kid" kind of way, rather than a "your kid's gunna be awesome wizard, and grow up evil".

No kid born into those circumstances will ever be normal. Can you imagine this kid going to playschool?

Nah, even without magic it's going to be a beast.

I've read this earlier in this thread but I wanted to ask to be sure:

Are there really going to be 24 Dresden Files books? Where does he say that?

I can't tell you exactly when and where it was said, but (as far as I know) there'll be 20 books and an Apocalyptic Trilogy, so 23 books altogether. (Not counting future anthologies of short stories)

I didn't want to open a new thread so I will ask my noob question here:

Is it worth to buy the books that feature the short stories? I mean I have no doubt that the Dresden parts will be good, but is the other authors work worthy of spending twelve-fifteen € on?

The short stories are awesome and have some very interesting backstory. I'd do it if I were you.
