Black comedy TV show made by Netflix (2 seasons so far) not as well known as House of Cards but, perhaps, as well made.

    Summary from the wiki:

I think it may be the most accurate of all films/tv shows dealing with prison. There's no gratuitous violence, no grand plans for escape or dramatic altercations. Just a bunch of women, from all walks of life, trying to get on with their lives as best they can. The characters are amazingly realistic and detailed, each with a compelling backstory.

It changes in a moment from tragically funny to hillariously bleak and back again. It's really, really fucking good.

    Plus tits.

One of my favourite programmes not just of the moment, but of all time. The performances are superb; the dialogue is Whedonesque in its ability to handle both wit and serious emotion; the characters, of which there are a great many, are all extremely human and well written; the plot is full of conflict without overdoing it; Piper Chapman's slow transformation is a joy to watch.

I feel like OITNB is way more well-known than House of Cards, but maybe that's just my female bias. That said, they smash House of Cards on social media. Source.

It really is a fantastic show, and season 2 was even better than season 1 in my opinion...I have high hopes for season 3.

    Edit:

    LOL. I have to disagree.

I actually started watching it after I saw Taure raving about it on facebook. Gotta say, one of the more entertaining shows I've seen the past year, and I prefer it much more than House of Cards, which got stale only 4-5 episodes in for me.

Halfway though season 2. Missing Vause. Also, I think they overdid the whole "Piper is suddenly a badass don't mess with her" thing. I mean all the inmates who'd been there years before her are now hushing up when she enters the room? That's a bit much.

Anyway, will probably go through the rest of the episodes this weekend.

I love it so much! Especially the way it lets you sympathize with pretty much all of the characters even if many of them have done some pretty disturbing/creepy stuff.

The only thing that annoys me is the racism. Maybe it's accurate, but people that retarded bother me.

Personally, I thought that, given the context (minimum security prison, most all women in there for non-violent or at least not murderous offenses), it made sense. Especially when comparing how Piper behaved at the beginning of the show to how she behaves now; it's more 'shocking' comparatively coming from her than some of the tougher inmates.

But I'll admit I don't really know much about prison life overall.

I agree, but it kept striking me that for every character, even the ones that seem mostly okay, there's usually something about them that's either reprehensible or unsettling. Also I appreciate the fact that for at least a few episodes you have concentrations of more comedic elements whereas others feature more serious content.

I'm almost done with season 1, so I'll have to see if this keeps up, but definitely the best show I've watched in a while.
