Right, while there is a search titled 'dark pokemon fics' I'm not really that fussed about what genre it is.

All I want to know, is the list of what fics that you pokenerds out there consider to be the pinnacle of pokefanfiction.

I've just read the Sun Soul, and woah, I never expected it to be quite as good as it was. While I eagerly away updates on that fic, I found what few links I could from that series, and plan on seeing how good they are. Those fics are:

If anything, lets get a bit of a discussion on the Pokemon fanfiction going.

 

Honestly, the majority of the fandom is poor. The Sun soul revived my interest in it.

This fic isn't really up to standard but I've been following it because it's a guilty pleasure. It's the type of fic that's most common in the fandom really.

Yeah, I can't get into pokemon 0 at all. Its horrible, who the fuck is the Gary Stu, just totally unrealistic. I'm having a lot more luck with the Hybrid's one.

After that i'll give A new Journey a go, then the other one listed here and probably call the fandom quits.

Definitely following Sun Soul however. That thing is a piece of art.

Read that one. Ash reappears after several years and kicks ass while winning Misty's heart after leaving her in the dust. This is a popular dark pokemon theme, but when you think about it, it's a popular dark Naruto, Bleach, etc. theme so isn't really winning. 3/5.

 

Mentor is my favourite Pokemon fic.

 

I don't see what the Problem is with Pokemon Zero is. I get it, okay, he's a Gary-stu extreme, but is Ash Ketchum any better? I'd much rather read about this emo than Ash and Pikachu. I think this is more of a subjective issue: "Are you reading for plot?" or "Do you just want to see Ash and Misty hook up?" -I want a bit of both, but I am coming to realize that I am becoming too picky when it comes to fics. Yes, the first chapter is badly formatted, but it does improve! The author does get better, marginally, but better nonetheless.

 

This is one of the very few Pokemon fics I've ever read. When One Ends
I started reading it in an update dry spell a while back. It's an O.K. read if you're bored but nothing spectacular.

 

I got to chapter 9 of Pokemon zero before I couldn't take it anymore.

Maybe Sun Soul just spoilt me, i'm not sure. I don't have a problem with reading about Ash and Pikachu, then again, I haven't read any poke fics at all really.

I also have no desire to read about any pairings. I don't care if they are there or not, but they don't come into my decision when choosing what to read or not.

Edit: Which is the best Pokemon game to play these days? I haven't really played since the gold/silver days ,but I suddenly feel the need to go back and feel that nostalgia. I'm far more interesting in plot/gameplay than graphics, amount of pokemon or any other bullshit.

 

The last one I played was Platinum (I think, it was the first for the DS). It was pretty good. I'm no expert though, I've played a grand total of 3 Pokemon games.

 

Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are currently out for the DS. Soul Silver and Heart Gold come out March 14th.

 

Have there been any renditions of Yellow? That was the first I played.

 

Nope, however in Heart Gold/Soul Silver you can emulate the constantly following behind pokemon gimmick that Yellow had.

That said, Pokemon Yellow was pretty fucking boss.

 

The problem with Pokemon 0 is that it's pretty much just some guy talking us through him playing the game and attaching a weak storyline to go along with it.

 

Fire red and Leaf Green are the remakes of Gen1 and pretty fuckin' fun. Platinum is to Diamond and Pearl as Yellow was to Red and Blue so that's the on you want if you're going for 4th gen.

As it is though, I'd wait until march 14th and get Heart Gold or Soul Silver. Everyone who can speak Jap and got Jap release date copies agree it's fucking excellent.

The whole new list of awesome features don't hurt either. :3
