As you may be able to divine from the notice telling noobs to post in the "Sorting Hat", noobs now have to post in the "Sorting Hat" before they are able to post anywhere else. Registration is open as well, and it seems to be working well.

We're already having a lot of fun watching the bots try and fail to spam the forums!

Oh God I need a life

No adbot flooding and no database errors for multiple days.

    Well done, overlords.

I'm assuming that regular members can't see the Sorting Hat forum. Either that or I'm just missing the blindingly obvious. It's probably for the best, but I still miss the old introduction forum.

I've been noticing the way that the list of newest members is nearly saturated with deleted spam accounts. No doubt spamming their little hearts off where nobody else can see them.

Kudos to the site staff, for keeping the main board clear and keeping the trash cans full.

Yeah. Good work, and all that.

But ffs, the ONE night I wanted to buy Viagra, inherit a million pounds from my Nigerian uncle, and gain 80,000 followers on twitter. What are the odds.

Hey I feel bad drudging up this old post, but I've been 'away' from DLP for quite some time now and was a lurker before. I was just curious if there were any steps I had to take before I can begin posting or am I good to go since I was here like...three years ago.

God I felt old typing that.

I don't know what was happening with bots as I didn't even know about DLP when the bot problem was happening but if there is still a problem it shouldn't be too hard stop if you have access to the original code for the website as it would only take a few lines of code to stop the bots from spam posting. It would be quite simple.

Are you convinced that you have simple solution for spambots, something that is still not solved after years - despite that it is one of the biggest problems with the Internet?

It seems to be case of "I have discovered a truly remarkable proof which this margin is too small to contain", but even more unlikely to be true.

I'm not trying to say I have a fix for spam bots completely but I think I know a way or two to stop some spam bots. I may be wrong but I think it could stop some.

I think what I said in my first post came out as if I had a fix for all bots when what I am trying to say is that I think I could stop some and the ones I think I could stop are the simpler ones.

EDIT: I'm not just making some random stuff up to get attention, I do do a lot of coding in my spare time so I know a bit about what I'm talking bout even though I haven't coded in HTML, CSS and PHP in a long time. I now spend most of my time using C++.

Just ignore him. It's obvious that GTMFPS is a troll trying to get a rise out of folks by insulting Raven. He's painfully transparent. Don't give him the attention he's looking for.

If GTMFPS isn't a troll, then he's an idiot and still not worth responding to. Just ignore him.

    tl;dr: Don't feed the troll.

I'm not trying to insult anyone as I think this website is great. All I'm saying is that if there are still bot problems there are a few things you can do to stop some of them not all as that would be nearly impossible.

He is the owner and host of Dark Lord Potter. And we actually found a way to block almost all spambots.

Except for the TaureBot. It's spamming the whole site.

The trick isn't stopping bots; the trick is not stopping legitimate posting at the same time.

How do we even get spambots? Just use a more complicated captcha at registration...
