Summary: A chronicle of the journeys of Curunir (Saruman), Alatar and Pallando in the lands east of the Anduin, beginning with the arrival of the Istari in Middle Earth.

    Saruman and the Blue Wizards

    My review:

This story begins around the year 1050 of the third age with the arrival of the five Istari in middle earth. It follows the travels of Saruman and the mysterious "Blue wizards" Alatar and Pallando into the east.

Did you ever wonder how Saruman earned the respect shown to him in the early pages of "The Fellowship of the Ring"? For which deeds did he get the keys to Isengard? You can find the answers to those and many other questions regarding the white wizard in this beautifully crafted story, told in a style close to that of Tolkien himself. Long journeys, strange lands in the east, the corrupting power of evil, magical fights and epic military battles make this one of the best fanfiction stories playing in the LotR universe I have ever read.

This isn't bad. The great thing about the Simarillion is that it can be used as a framework to craft your own story in the world of LoTR.

Its a relatively quick read at 90k words, and if you're looking for an LoTR fix, this is it.
