Anyone have some good long fics cross-over or otherwise they could rec that would stand up if you don't know the fandom?

Ive recently gotten introduced to a couple of fandoms that I would never have come across via reading truly good cross-over fics. They were written well enough that you didnt really need any knowledge, and were good enough to get me interested in that fandom afterwards. Specifically, I read dreaming of sunshine and Extending the boundaries in the naruto verse and the next lord of kobol by jbern in battlestar galactica.

I'm wondering if anyone else had recommendations of non HP fandom stories that could be followed like that without knowing the fandom. Maybe serve as introductions to it?

    Hope all that makes sense!

All of these are from either my favourites list, or favourite authors. I don't think I'm (originally) familiar with the crossover material, although I might have been.

It's worth keeping in mind that I haven't re-read any of them recently, and some are definitely not the best in the fandom.

The Queen Who Fell To Earth, by Bobmin. Crossover with Pern, which I have tried since and have no plans on reading more of. The author isn't going to be finishing the third story, so you have two and a half. Lots of issues, but of a decent enough quality. The author's also done a bunch of other ones you can try, just ignore the disclaimers.

Something Wicked This Way Comes, by The Mad Mad Reviewer. Disgaeae (and a bit of Silent Hill) crossover. I've never played any of them. Loved it, and I have re-read it. Got into the Library.

Harry Potter and the Sun Source by Clell. Crossover with the Destroyer series. I've tried the series, and it was fun, but I haven't yet picked up anything past the first book. Super powerful Harry, and martial arts, so YMMV. Was reviewed here, went in the Almost Recommendable.

Hell Eyes, by Jezeray. Not really a crossover, but a lot of OC/AU elements, enough to class it as such. I don't think it's aged well, but I don't want to sully my memory of it. Was reviewed here, went in the Almost Recommendable.

Doghead Thirteen, author rather than stories. Massive crossovers, lots of gun porn, lots of stupid power arguments, lots of biggatons, vaguely concealed (but not explicit) fetishes... But it was fun the first time or two I read them. Has two pieces (at least) in the library.

I read the following with no personal experience with the source material (excepting HP, of course), all are 5/5 in the library, and didn't suffer at all from not knowing their source, in my opinion.

Harry Potter: The Last Avatar by The Sorting Hat. HP/The Last Airbender (Show)

Sudden Contact by A Very Thirsty Megalomaniac. Mass Effect/Starcraft

The Game of Champions by @Lamora. Pokemon.

Like I said, these are easily some of my favorite fics of all time, with The Game of Champions being the fic I reread most often for it's unashamedly epic writing. Shoutout also to Sudden Contact, which is significantly less known than the others on this list, and had easily the most ambitious "introduction" on the list (as it needs to introduce two very diverse universes and the authors imagining of their fusion).

On a slightly unrelated note: You should 100% watch Battlestar Galactica. That is one of the best drama series I've ever seen.

I enjoyed Stalker Zero a huge amount. It was easily one of my top fics of 2015 despite never having seen Familiar of Zero (and not wanting too - it looks like shit). Unfortunately the fic was taken down by the author and I haven't yet found a backup.

Browncoat, Green Eyes was my introduction to the magnificent world of Firefly.
The Stalking Blood Sack is a constant reminder to avoid that book series, no matter how many people claim Anita Blake is actually decent urban fantasy. The fic itself is fantastic, though.
