Apparently the X-Men will leave the so-called Battle World to find a new planet to live on. Bleedingcool speculates it is because of the Inhumans.

It's always been a conceit in the MU that if you 'earned' your powers, like the Avengers and F4, the public was cool with you, but if you were born that way, they hated you.

    ...

I know. Didn't make any fucking sense to me, either.

Anyhoo, I haven't read the comics themselves since the mid-90s. I still have a stack of X-Men, X-Force and some X-Factor hiding somewhere. Was never an Avengers fan until the MCU, but I've totally lost all interest in the X-Men these days.

Seems more like a mutant specific thing. The normal heroes always have super kids that nobody has a problem with.

They want to keep the mutants as a metaphor for whole wagonloads of different bigotries (in the comics, AFAIK, they were a metophor for racism, in the films, a metaphor for racism and homophobia ("have you trying not to be a mutant"), in the new comics, for other xenophobiaæ such as islamophobia).

And they don't work as allegories for any of those things, because neither blacks or gays are one-man WMDs. (Though in groups it's arguable...)

But in any case I'd definitely support them having their own world.

They're Persons of Mass Destruction cause it's superhero comics.

It was explained to me once that 'earning' your powers fits within the American Dream. It's because the same thing 'could' happen to you, even if the chance is very, very small.

Meanwhile, mutants aren't only obvious metaphors for race and for homosexuality. They also tie into the fear of being replaced by someone arbitrarily better than you in some way, with no way for you to overcome those advantages.
Magneto doesn't help, what with his Homo Superior propaganda.

Is anyone actually reading Secret Wars? Cause I've been reading all of Hickman's stuff for years and the build up to this has been huge.

I read it without knowing much of the buildup. I don't understand everything or who everyone is, but the art is pretty nice and the story is decent.
What we saw of Battleworld seems cool, though we'll have to see how it goes in the next issues.

I take it for what it is an excuse for them to bring the Runaways back which is good enough for me.
