Not so much dystopian, just that the majority of the world's corrections have been privatised under the one banner - Alliance Systems, who have gone off the deep end somewhat.

The themes and shit are supposed to be a dire warning of what we're seeing now, today. Here's just one recent example of privatisation gone awry.

    Also, mutant sharks.

I added The Rig on goodreads. And while I was there I remembered I still haven't read Distant Star, so I just bought a copy. It cleared 30 seconds ago. So enjoy my 3.95 Canadian--or whatever it is you get after Amazon/taxes. Don't spend it all on implausibly cheep scotch.

Alright. Who bred Suarez with a frickin' shark?

As for the book (and others you've written) I really need to get a hold of them. :)

Y'all are so wrong. I've got it figured out.

When Joe's mutant sharks stop peddling Crystal-X and start dealing in kittens, you'll see.

I thought that was a mock poster for a film which couldn't possibly exist in real life. Oh Ignorance, how I miss you.

I had really really hoped that wasn't filmed in the U.S. I am sad to see that it was.

A pretty damned intriguing start, Joe. The introduction of the warden had a very Shawshank vibe, and that's definitely a good thing.

I'm gonna buy the hell out of this.

Did we get a teaser of this before, Joe? Got a real sense of Deja Vu there.

Really interesting opening. I definitely want to read more. It flows well, leads you in and has some really lovely descriptions of the environment.

The Rig reminds me of Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty with the way it's set up.

    Can't wait till September.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Joe is great and all that, and I'm looking forward to reading his book.

But you know why I'm really looking forward to September? First two chapters of Skin Game baby, oh yeah. Fortunately it comes out two days prior to The Rig so we'll all be able to enjoy both.

    Shawshank like a boooss!

    Yes. ^this!

The chapter I posted in that thread, however, is somewhat similar but entirely different to how the story turned out in the end.

Honestly, this is my real opening salvo into original fiction. May she be blessed...

Only 3 months until this one hits the shelves!

In the mean time, I've got myself a FB page (editors insisted - I am now a product to be whored out to the masses!) and I'd appreciate a few likes: https://www.facebook.com/joeducieauthor

    Cheers.
