    Title: The Salvation War
    Author: Sturt Slade
    Link: http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=118771

This is basically a story about what happened if Heaven really existed and God decided to close the gates of Heaven, and condemning everyone to hell. While at the same time, Satan decides to act and send forward his legion to enslave all of humanity.

The response? Invade Hell with the might of our military forces around the world.

At surface looks pretty lulzy. I hope this gets lots of reviews.

Just read the first installment, has one great comedic moment.

It's more bogged down in technical details than Tom Clancy however, rambling on and on about the minutiae of the war machines. The exact speeds, terms, etc. I personally like it, but it might be too much of a slog for others.

The dialogue is lifeless so far, but it is a great approximation of formal military speech. Maybe accurate, I dunno. May or may not read on since the demon enemies have been treated as jokes.

    President Bush is a character.

So is this like a military story?

I tried reading this once - but I kept imagining the demons as pixelated blobs from Doom II.

The use of Bush as a character did not help in the slightest.

I will refrain from rating due to blatant liberal bias on my part.

Well, I hardly doubt that anyone can take the idea of humans invading hell too seriously.

Well, the author has mentioned before why did he go down into details, mainly to give people the idea that all those machineries actually has to work in a realistic sense. He is trying to depict just how complex a war can be, with all the logistic issues and all that.

Well for one, the author is a military analyst.

You do know that the author is a liberal as well?

Bush is in it due to the fact that the story was written during the Bush presidency. In the second novel, Obama is the next president in the story.

    "Sod off, Baldrick."

That has to be the funniest thing anyone could ever say to Satan, ever.

I'm only a few paragraphs in and I already love this fic. It's almost as awesome as Shinji and Warhammer40k.

I can't tell if this is serious or a parody of some kind.

I don't care. I'm now eleven chapters in and this is still fucking awesome. The technical details don't bother me since I just glance over them and they fit in well enough with the narrative. The demons are beginning to learn the countermeasures we've been perfecting since WWI for securing their senior officers from assassination and the demon general is becoming quite a sympathetic character in my eyes, if only because I know what he's up against and he almost deserves that sympathy.

Seriously, I'm just waiting for the first MOAB or nuke to go off. Shit will be epic.

I have trouble when a story brings in a real world person that I know about. It doesn't mesh well for me.

Strange, because that's basically what fanfiction does when it takes Harry and puts him in a different situation. It's building off an already known quantity but changing one aspect of their personality or the situation they face.

I'd give my opinion on this, but I think this SA thread about sums it up

It's basically only good if you're the type of person who jerks off to Guns and Ammo

    and The God Delusion

    and is 16 years-old

Why can't older people enjoy some light-hearted and non-serious story?

Most people down there aren't 16, and they could enjoy the story for what it is.

It's like you saying Harry Potter is only something that you can enjoy if you are a child or a teenager.

Now, is this even a fanfiction or is it an actual original work/book/etc?

Original work. I don't know if any other section is the right place to post this story in.

That was fucking long. 85 chapters plus an epilogue. I've just now opened up the sequel but it's only 14 chapters long atm.

The style reminded me of a Halo fic I read a long while ago. Lots of technical jargon, freakishly one-sided battles, a storyline that revolved around the ass kicking of the bad guys and the complete moral, technical, tactical, and numerical superiority of the good guys.

Actually, it has more in common with AlbertG's "A Thin Veneer", now that I think on it. A lot more in common. Not the most enriching read, but they both kept me entertained.

Read this a while back and its sequel is in progress now, 4 chapters long.

Essentially, to me this is a curbstomp fic where humanity rolls Hell harder then the Fat Guy from Lost sitting on a 3 year old. In that sense, its hard to take it for the serious story that it actually is; doesn't really matter though. Comedy or not, this is well written with an interesting situation for humanity. Therefore, I liked it.

You just have to lolz at this kind of work. If there is a God this author is certainly going to be seeing an increase in room temperature in the afterlife. There are a lot of Anti-religion stories in the market lately.

The latest two chapter in Pantheoncide is awesome! I like it when the story focus on the perspective of a pet.
