Oh look. Another magical, undead pirate crew as the villains. Meh.

Well, PotC has never tried to be anything but Depp doing his crazy act, and that is enough to carry the movies so I'll still watch it, but really. Just a bit of effort would be nice.

Eh. I should have given up on PotC at number 3, but I thought getting away from the baggage of the original trilogy might have rejuvenated it with 'On Stranger Tides'. It didn't. Won't be bothering with the new one.

I did go and see 'Swiss Army Man' today though, and I heartily recommend it. It's definitely odd, but it's also weirdly joyful and heartfelt, despite all the fart gags.

Super excited for pirates. All I need is that score and cap'n Jack and I'm set...

I liked Penelope Cruz in the last one too...

Actually, I just like Penelope Cruz :3

As terrible as OST was, I never get tired of PotC. I continue to sit through all the melodrama of Black Sails just hoping it will one day be as delightfully piratey.

I was expecting something hilariously awful, but that actually looks kinda sweet.

Went to see Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children yesterday, which was good fun. It all got wrapped up a bit neatly, but overall it's good solid entertainment.

Watched the Magnificent Seven remake. Excellent western movie, subverts the clichés nicely, doesn't to be original, but to be a true western and a homage to the original theme, which it does in a great way. Fantastic acting by most of the cast, and Vincent was incredible.

So, I finally saw Suicide Squad. Thanks to my lowered expectations from everything I heard about it, I ended up having a pretty fun time.

So, a new Power Rangers movie reboot thing.

This seems unnecessary, but isn't surprising. Wonder if the Japanese will make their own like what's happening with Godzilla?

Just got back from the Free State of Jones. I'm not massively familiar with the US civil war, but I have the basics (The South lost), and I don't feel I really missed much due to a lack of knowledge.

Really good film - nearly every scene is beautifully shot, and really intense. A lot of scenes have little to no dialogue, with everything told through motions and body-language, and audience inferrence.

I dislike multiple time-skips, and little notes on screen as to what's going on in most films, because I find it lazy. However, as this is based on real events and therefore the little notes are more reminders, I can forgive it. Honestly, some of the two minute scenes say all that needed to be said.

I'd definitely recommend seeing it, and I think it does gain something from the big screen.

Saw the Magnificent Seven last night. I'm not a big Western guy, but I've watched some. Way better than I what thought it would be based on the trailers + it being a remake. Actually enjoyable.
