I will ignore a race changes and only comment on overall appearance.

Unfortunately in this photo Major's hairstyle is more like Arise than any other version which is my least favourite.

Why Batou has normal eyes? His bulkiness is a little unnatural in this photo, but it's fine since he's a cyborg anyway.

Borma has eyes, but without it I wouldn't guess which character it was suppose to be.

I would prefer Ishikawa to be older, but he's fine.

That's Togusa? Surely they are joking. He's way too old. Probably means they will not have him as a newcomer on the team.

    Saito is fine.

    Aramaki too.

I suppose it could be a little better, but it could be a lot worse.

Weird that they didn't do Batou's bottlecap eyes.

Maybe some of the cybernetics will be CGI.

    Free Fire.

With its quirky premise and impressive cast this could be one of these good films that not enough people will watch. Like The Nice Guys from this year.

    That looks really good.

Also reminded me that we need a District 9 sequel.

Netflix is making Death Note film, but this quote from its director, Adam Wingard, suggests he may not be a person I would choose for this project.

It's been few years since I read and watch the series, but I'm pretty sure that there is very little nudity in it, almost no swearing and the violence is no worse than in PG-13 films. Neither there was a need for these elements for it to be considered a series with "adult" themes.

I'm not against adding them in the US version, but only if they aren't the focus of the film instead of its psychological drama and mind games.

Well, you're right on the nudity and the swearing, but you are incorrect on the violence, as there's quite a bit of that. Perhaps not tons of the physical variety, but a lot of people die, and many of the deaths are quite gruesome.

Swearing could be easily fitted without issue. As long as the film keeps Death Note's core values of masterminds and chess games and ignores the second season, I'll be happy.

I remember violence, I just don't remember anything that would be a R rated variety in how it was presented.

Did anyone ever read The Girl With All The Gifts? Well looks like they are making it into a movie. A reasonably unique take on zombies, at least at the time when I read it, the idea has been cribbed a few times since then. Still a good book, had a good ending. Apparently the author wrote the screenplay alongside the book so should be reasonably close.

Also if anyone ever enjoyed 'Black Butler' the Japanese live action opens in the UK today, from the trailer it looks like they cast Sebastian perfectly.

    Interesting and well-structured opinion, xandrel.

Curious about the Black Butler live action. I did moderately enjoy the manga, but I have to disagree with Sorrows on the casting for Sebastien. It's possible that he grows on me, but he didn't immediately click with the character for me.
Also it seems like they've changed the setting from Victorian to modern. I suppose it makes sense logistically, but I'm not too sure how well that will translate.

I dearly hope the Misa of this version is done well.

Also, Watari looks way too young.

Their choice for L seems ok, don't really know much about the guy to play him.

    Full agreement on Light.

My skepticism comes from fears that this movie will be straight-to-dvd quality.

I was just looking at the cast. Why is the character named "Light Turner" and his father called "James Turner". If I recall correctly was the surname "Yagami".

Because this version takes place in America instead of Japan? The name changes aren't really that big of a deal to be honest.

So they want to Americanize Death Note huh . . . I guess it will be worth watching just to see how badly they can fuck this up.

I mean... there's not much of significance in Death Note that is culturally specific to Japan besides the concept of Shinigami (and even that could be easily contextualized as reapers or something). If it's bad, it won't be bad because it's been westernized.

Fair enough. I just thought that the way the whole police force was described in the story was pretty Japanese. Including the titles of some of the department heads.
Who knows though this could be an excellent series. Death Note is a good story already so 75% of the work is already done.
