Valid concern. The first movie really had a sense of scale, and not so much because of robot next to a skyscraper, but things like cargo ship=baseball bat. The way they moved in water, kinda sluggish, like yeah, it's a big fucking robot, it'll be slow, but also it's a big fucking robot, it could punch a mountain into dust. The scale was actually lost in the finale, when the background was just ocean floor.

I'm curious about the robots fighting robots we see though. I like the thought, but it definitely departs from the easy formula they had for the first one.

    New Mutants trailer

So apparently they decided to make an x-men flavored teen horror movie?

I honestly have no idea what to think about that.

It seems a bit overboard to me using both mutants and horror movies to sell something. We will see how it goes

I think they're shooting for something other than the typical 'good mutants vs evil mutants' or 'mutants oppressed' shtick that's been done to death. Though the 'wall-stretchy-things' is way old-school original Nightmare on Elm Street horror that only creeped me out the first time I saw it a billion years ago when jump-scares were king.

I look forward to seeing it.

This is a sentence I didn't think I'd say ever in my life:

Apparently Ryan Reynolds has been cast as the voice of Pikachu in the Detective Pikachu movie?

It's a legit game, and with the writers involved (Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman), it might not be horrible.

There's too little information to really judge it on, but the people that are creating it make it seem that it might not be hopeless.

Well, now that I’ve seen this trailer, I’m pretty sure I know everything that’ll happen in the movie. Guess I don’t need to see the movie anymore.

(Hate trailers that give too much away)

Yeah, I've stopped watching all trailers entirely as a principle.

Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom trailer dropped overnight:

Not sure what I'm feeling about it, apart from HYPE (because more dinosaurs)... And that the trailer feels like it shows to much.

I actually didn't like the trailer.

The interaction between Claire and Owen felt like two steps back from the end of the first movie just so they can tell the same romance again.

The overall theme of the movie feels too close to Jurassic Park 2 with those private military dudes, dinosaurs in transport cages and on the cargo ship.

In a movie about dinosaurs I honestly don't need a freaking volcano and explosions. I guess it's a general lack of subtlety compared to the very first Jurassic Park.

I wish they would have done something with Dr. Henry Wu.

Let him create dino-pets for a private company, that become the latest craze, which in turn makes Claire suspicious, because she knows Wu and what he did with the Indominus Rex. Suddenly said company wants to hire her, because they know her from her time at Jurassic World. She doesn't like what she sees behind the scenes.

I thought that was supposed to be the point. I think it looks good, but I'm not at all familiar with the source material other than recognizing the name.

I think distorting the features of a fairly gorgeous actress who already has massive eyes and a pointy chin into a live-action anime face is pushing the concept of adapting a manga to film. And there are numerous other choices they could have made to make her face look cyborg-y without delving so deeply into uncanny valley.

But who knows... maybe, complete with anime face, she'll do full blown anime expressions. The sheer lolz of seeing this:

    or this:

happen on the big screen would be well worth the cringe.

Meh. Humanity had a good run. I think cinemagoers everywhere are ready for the 'kawaiidesune' aesthetic...
