Most of us probably have few books, movies, TV series, comics, anime and similar that they are (im)patiently waiting to be finished. Currently the most famous example is probably ASoIaF books, but there are many others.

    My list:

    1) The Dresden Files - While it's published regularly, it's going to be about 15 years of waiting before it ends and all secrets are revealed.

    2) Rebuild of Evangelion - The original plan had all four movies released by 2008. The final may have a premiere in 2015 or may not.

    3) Berserk - Most readers probably accept that the author doesn't intend to ever finish this manga. Or if he does, given his speed and often breaks, it will take him few more decades.

    4) The Multiversity - A little odd choice for this list because it's not being published right now, but I was waiting for this miniseries by Grant Morrison since it was announced in 2009 and its first issue will be released in the next month.

    3) Water Mage fic, Awaken Sleeper.

    4) DA:I.

    5) The Sandman movie. I want to see Death so badly.

Do I limit on the series that have a chance to be finished?

    If so:

    • The Dresden Files - yeah.
    • Sherlock (2010) - it's pretty damn awesome, 'nuff said
    • Doctor Who (2005) - I don't want to see it finished, but I definitely want more, now.
    Otherwise:

    • Firefly (2002) - this ship has sailed, but this series alone is enough to justify hate on corporations
    • Shezza's fourth Denarian

Damn, I just noticed that a lot of high quality series have finished within last two years (Dexter, HIMYM - although with terrible finale, Breaking Bad just to name three)

What was it he called it? Reminiscent Exile?

On the FF front, I'm waiting for Joe to finish Heartlands.
Sometimes, when I'm drunk, I also secretly widh that the KiP author would pick it up again.

It's probably a little bit sad that when I saw this question my mind immediately went to a bunch of fanfics (Game of Champions, Wand and Shield, Santi's Boy Who Lived, Lie I've Lived sequel - pretty sure the ship has sailed on the last two) but I'm not really waiting on much actual fiction to be finished. Other than the obvious that have been mentioned, like ASoIaF, Dresden and Kingkiller Chronicles.

I guess it's easier to wait for actual published stories to be released because I know they'll almost certainly come out eventually (unless GRRM dies), whereas fanfiction is abandoned fairly regularly.

I'd also have mentioned Kingkiller and possible Raven's Shadow, but the second books in both the series had lacked the first's... charm.

So let's pick some stuff that are just as good but less well-known:

    - The Traitor Son Cycle by Miles Cameron
    - Land Fit for Heroes by Richard Morgan
    - Tales of Durand by David Keck

All three amongst the best ongoing Fantasy series right now, each has a second book just as good as the first. No disappointments. Read these, faggots.

    Stormlight Archive, by Brandon Sanderson.
    * In fact, the entire Cosmere series, which include 10 Shardworlds, which includes not only Stormlight Archive but also:
    • Mistborn Series
    • Elantris
    • Warbreaker
    • Dragon Steel
    • White Sand
*All of these books will eventually intertwine I believe.

A Song of Ice and Fire.

    The Dresden Files.

    - Stormlight Archive
    - Dresden Files (kinda excited about the projected timeline he's got! Can't wait for Apocalypse trilogy ending)

    - Kate Daniels Series: Urban Fantasy series that is fairly well done. Tech is failing, Magic intermittently becomes super powerful. Old, forgotten ones awaken during Magic flares. Fun series, I heartily recommend to folks. Book 1 wasn't the greatest, but it starts picking up steam during book 2. edit: (porny, but less annoying than others in the genre)

    - King Killer Chronicles - Duh.

    - ShadowChronicles: Famous, old Ranma fanfic series. (www.shadowchronicles.net) Author likes to take multi year hiatuses before updating. Solid read. edit: (porny, lotsa lezzi action in the 'On A Clear Day You Can See Forever' but still fun read)

    - Half Life 3

    - Honor Harrington Series (david weber): Damned if I haven't invested a lot of reading into it. Just want to see the thing finished.

    Things I'm impatiently waiting for...

First, Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series. I really really love these books. It's a police procedural set in an urban fantasy London where magic is, if not quite secret, at least not known about by the general public. It follows Peter Grant, a young officer in the Metropolitan Police, who becomes involved with the magical side of things. Much of the humour comes from the clash of Grant's modern police training and the turn of the century methods still practised by Nightingale

Second, Scott Lynch's The Gentleman Bastard Sequence. The first book was the best but I've enjoyed them all so far. It's Ocean's Eleven as a fantasy novel.

Just a quick warning on this one. While I really like the Kate Daniels series, they are as much paranormal romance as urban fantasy. If you can't stand like kind of hate-you-love-you-stab-you shipping in your books, avoid.

I've only been able to get into On A Clear Day You Can See Forever , but I agree. It's very good. On A Clear Day You Can See Forever is a Sailor Moon/Ranma crossover, with lots and lots of limey lesbian sex. Even without that, its still amazingly written, with a deep original plot.

Shit, has it really been two years since I updated that one? Four original novels and three anthologies, though.

Not abandoned, but definitely not until I catch up on my original fiction commitments!
