I reckon that Denarian Renegade is probably my favourite as well as its the fic I seem to always come back and read again.

 

Most really good fics are always abandoned, but try "Knowledge is Power" or one "New Life and Battles" if you're into AU, also the Lie I've lived.

Forging the Sword by Myst Shadow is how a story should be that is meant to show character progress. The buildup of Harry's abilities is very natural after the Chamber of Secrets unlike several other stories. Definitely the best of its type.

 

It is a toss up between On the Way to Greatness and The Phoenix and the Serpent for me.

I have read the OtWtG almost a dozen times and I have enjoyed it every single time. I absolutely love the writing. And I'm really, really disappointed that it did not update in 2015.

The Phoenix and the Serpent excels at every single area of storytelling: writing, characterization, world-building, action/adventure, romance, bringing on the feels, the coming of age of the protagonist and pushing certain themes incredibly well. Simply an amazing story.

This is what I always think of when someone asks about the best fanfic. It has a few problems, but it's just really good, and it actually has held up well over time.

 

Thief of Hogwarts ranks among one of the best fics.

 

I think enembee is solidly number 1.

So I've been reading Heartlands of Time, and I'm about halfway through catching up to the current updates, and I've got to say that I think one of the best fics that's still in progress and active is Unfound Door by Joe

Heartlands (and Wastelands before it) has too much blatant Joe-ness to it, and I feel like it's toned down just enough in Unfound Door to make that one a 5/5 so far.

 

Sorry man, I'm new. I'm still kinda figuring things out as I go. One suspicion that so far is proving to be correct is that people don't like it when new guys break unwritten rules. So I'll try to work on that.

So Heartlands of Time, is that an AU/dimension hopping story? It's hard to find quality HP fanfiction sorting through all the garbage over on that site.

 

Well if it's alive again I'll have to say that I'm currently addicted to Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived. I still have a bit of a darkHarry addiction.

 

I don't think that really counts as a Dark Harry fic, not yet anyway.

Most read? A Black Comedy by Nonjon. Probably read 10+ times.
Most enjoyed at the time? Bungle in the Jungle by Jbern. But it fails in the re read.
Best Written. Really hard to say, The only one he feared by Taure probably.

See the thing a lot of people seem to forget, or forgot when we used to do the yearly fanfic awards, is fanfiction is for fun, so the bst fics should be the ones that gave you the most fun reading them.

 

I think The Prisoner's Cipher is probably the best, despite its slightly disappointing ending. I'm not sure if it's my favorite, but for whatever reason, it stands out to me as the best HP fic, I can remember at the moment.

I'd recommend In Light of Silver Memories as well, but unfortunately that never progressed far past the early stages.

 

No such thing as too much Joe-ness. You should know that by now.

I appreciate the kind words about An Unfound Door. It's my favourite piece of fanfic - of the ones I've written. Big plans there. None of that universe is in danger bullshit, but some simple magical Hogwarts. Going to be good.
