I have always for as long as I can remember used the right shift key pretty much exclusively, but a discussion on IRC is making me think I'm some sort of mutant.

So which shift key does DLP use?

I use the one on the right pretty much exclusively as well. I can't say why, I just do. This is made readily apparent when someone looks at my shitty keyboard and sees that the label on the right shift key is gone and the left is untouched.

Then again, with that logic I almost exclusively use the letters A and L, since the labels on those keys are worn off, too.

Wat. People actually use the right shift key, ever? Odd.

According to WhatPulse, I've used Right Shift 376 times in my last 30 million keys. Left shift?

    495,812 times.

Wow. I hardly touch my right shift key unless I'm typing with one hand. Didn't even realise people would use the right exclusively - I've never seen it. (But then, I've never looked for it either)

Could this be correlated to hand preference, by any chance? (I'm right-handed)

I honestly don't think I've used my right shift key. Ever.

I use both shift keys. I think that may be because I took typing classes in high school which taught me to use the the shift key on the opposite side of the keyboard of the letter I'm capitalizing. So, If I'm capializing an S or C I use the right shift. If I'm doing an I or N I use the left, etc.

Left Shift key. Don't think I've ever used Right Shift save in ye olde days when I used the arrow keys to control characters in PC games. Dark times.

I'll edit "Both" into the poll.

    EDIT: Nevermind, I can't. I'll bug a mod. D:

Seeing as my WhatPulse registers both my shift keys as 'Unknown', I can't be as cool as this guy. I do, however, use my semi-colon almost double that of my 'Unknown' shift keys. Programming coincidence?

Edit three days late: According to my laptop (where I do most of my programming) out of the 82,000 key presses it has logged, left shift has 2770 presses and right shift has 633.
I am, however, in agreement with this. I'm left-handed, but I still use both depending on which letter I'm capitalizing.

The ONLY exceptions to this are when I'm coding. I use the right shift for <>?:" because it is convenient. I also usually have had my hand on my mouse selecting multiple places in my code, so ,./right-shift is like a secondary home-row for my right hand.

In the last ~million keystrokes: 19,515 left shifts, 319 right shifts. You're a mutant, Oz.

    Right shift - 2827.
    Left shift - 37144.

Odd enough, as I can't actually envision any scenario in which I would press the Right shift. Not sure where, apart from accidents, those presses came from.

This is only one one of my computers, but the general trend holds, I would imagine.

I have never pressed the right shift key.

I didn't think anyone even bothered with that shitty key. Worst one on the keyboard.
