What H/C needs is an alternative universe where Cedric doesn’t croak. Instead he breaks up with her, because she doesn’t put out. She’s heartbroken, soggy from sobbing, and then angry. Spiteful, clumsy Harrylovin’ ensues. And by that I mean the sex. Full blown sex.

I found this hilarious for some strange reason. The horse(s) looked better than Sarah.

What Harry/Cho needs is less Cho. I despise Yellow Fever. Dunno why, but it ranks even higher than Harry/Ginny on my hate list. About as high as Harry/Draco. *shrugs* She's just not a likeable character.

    EDIT: 100th post! w00t!

    Possibly Fem!Blaise.

Until you stick your hand down Blaise's pants, you just don't know.

And don't bother posting if you just are going to say Cho sucks. It's an opinion that's been established and adds nothing to the thread. If you have something relevant to add to the discussion, and maybe a link or two to good Harry/Cho fics please share them and then, by all means, feel free to add that Cho sucks.

I've been playing with how this could work as background for one of my fics.
I've come up with the following.

2nd year possesed (and corrupted) Ginny kills Marietta. Reason, Marietta was bullying Luna. Marietta's body is not found right away and Cho and some Ravenclaws go looking for their missing friend. Long term it leads to changes.

    1) Ginny is out of picture, sent to Salem or Beuxbatons, where not everyone thinks of her as an 11 year old killer.

    2) Cho deals with grief earlier and not as deeply. This lets her handle Cedric better and get a commitment to kicking DL butt. No betrayal down the road.

3)Closer collaberation between Cho and trio. This doesn't mean they are best friends 3rd or 4th year. At the same time Cho knows that Hermione is not a romantic rival. Ron knows enough not to insult the Tornados. Some childish misunderstandings are avoided. Cho understands the stakes in OoTP and doesn't bring in people she shouldn't, like Marietta.

4)Harry/Cho delayed until 6th year, perhaps with Harry dating someone else and screwing up (I'm thinking Parvarti). Justification, friend of Cho's points out to Harry that OotP year Cho might not be a good idea. Hermione or Luna points out that this is especially true if you have the dark lord running around in your head.

Basically, Harry/Cho is doomed by Cedric's corpse, childish misunderstandings, and betraying friends. Mitagate some of that and you have potential. Maybe not for true love, but for something less screwed up.

    All the Best,

    Kerney

Ok I will be not be the first to admit that I'm not completely behind a Harry/Cho pairing, but to make one work you will have to change a few things in cannon.

    1. Harry gets to ask Cho to the Yule ball before Cedric. This eliminates the whole crying thing during OotP.

    2. During the OotP time period, use Marietta as a catalyst against them. Maybe even envolve Ginny with her as the two plot to break them apart.

    3. Have her instead of Ginny at the Ministry battle. This would cement her place with Harry's friends.

The biggest problem with this pairing is that too many have used her as some kind of psycho freak, or sniffling fluff wanker. In conclusion any story would have to start during the Tri-wizard to reshape her character.

And as far as what she should look like? I will sit down and work on a few things for ya.

The biggest obstacle for the H/C pairing is Cedric's death. I knew, right at the moment he snuffed it, that Harry and Cho would never last through the series. I naturally dared to dream, but they all turned into stupid nightmares about betraying bitches and dead godfathers.

I became interested in the pairing again, after HBP and DH inadvertently showed me the light. But fics of this pairing are rather uncommon. Most of those I liked have already been posted here, Headsman's Hostage and Fury of the Elements come to mind.

Cho-bashing has always been a rather big turn-off for me, but I've mellowed out a lot since, such trivial matters are no longer a bother. Especially when they aren't a big part of the story at all.

    Fixed that for you.

The problem with your original points, is that it seems to me that you'd basically replace Cho with Ginny, while coming up with a deus-ex-machina to explain the swap. The similarities include, but are certainly not limited to:
    1) Early angst riddled plot device coming out of nowhere, that serves as a bond between the protaganist and his love interest, but will not develop for several years, and in no way promotes a healthy relationship, yet somehow will do just that.
    2) 'Waiting', for a variety of reasons, to actually come together romantically. In the interim, Harry 'Harem' Potter will date the other laydez of Hogwarts, until a major battle will show him who his true friends are, one which will be his romantic interest, despite the many hurdles that are clear to all those dear to them.
    3) Any actual conflict however, will be diverted ahead of time by yet more D.E.Ms. (Unlike D.O.M. these do deserve the adjective 'fiasco')

So yeah, you've given us Cho Weasley. I don't want that. Nor do I want a story of a 'quartet' where from the age of 12, we have two mini couples running around, with Dumbledore smiling benignly and announcing years in the future that he always saw it coming, and wasn't it just adorable.

Thankyou for the interesting modification. I can see why you read into what you did and you have some good points. It's not quite how I pictured it so I'll clarify.
Agreed, sort of. Having Ginny more under the influence of Voldemort, thus becoming a casual killer is a little tweek. Having her still being Weasley enough to stand up for the weak is twisted.

Yea, there is angst and shared mission. But when that goes away I see the trio and the Claws going their seperate ways rather then forming a quartet. They become go into the background, rather like Ernie Macmillian does except when they need someone to share potions or defend Potter. Except with Cho and Harry it's sharing occasional mutual advice on how to outmanuver Diggory and Malfoy. Her running into him at the Quiditch world Cup and saying hi.

Things that promote healthy relationships: Experince with grief so you don't mess up dates or go out before your ready. Longer period of mutual aquaintenceship. Trust built off of past experince (CoS year) not only with yourself but with each other's friends.

Harry actually dancing with Parvarti and even having a good time is reasonable. Harry being impressed with Susan Bones when she points out he can do a patronus is cool. Developing on or the other into a romance that doesn't last is possible.

Agreed and I should limit it. On the other hand, cannon Harry/Cho has Cedric's bloody corpse, Marietta's betrayal, Ron's initial ingratiation, Cho's misplaced jealously, and Voldmort inside Harry's head, healthy case of PTSD. You could come up with worse circumstances for a relationship to work, but not by much.
If you want this to have any chance of working, you have to mitigate it somewhat. But reading my own writing yea, it sounds like I go too far to the other extreme. One of Cho's nicest cannon moments is when she puts Ron in his place discussing Quiditch.

Neither do I. See why you read that in. One thing I like about Cho is that she argues with Harry, unlike snogtoy Ginnybot. She has the right to argue (up to a point). IN DH, the one scene she was in she seemed to get her sh*t together, unlike Ginny.

Maybe some of those smart Ravenclaws can point out some of Dumbles flaws. Yea, I hate that too.

    All the best,

    Kerney

It's not so much that your idea is bad, or even illogical... the problem lies in canon. Especially if you intend for your audience to be DLP. I'm not saying you must right for 'us', but as you're here, I'll make my arguments based on that assumption.

First, you have to understand why the community doesn't like Ginny Weasley. For many, the total butchering of any possible character by teenage fangirls is enough to turn them completely off the pairing - not daring to risk a given story. For the simple minded, it's a 'ZOMG, if I hate Ginny, then [insert old school DLPer] will like me, and I'll be cool!' However, I believe the base argument against her character is how out of nowhere, this perfect Mary Sue just enters Harry's life.

Harry didn't really know Cho, but that was okay - he thought she was teh hawtness, 'nuff said. But with little Gin-gin, she went from not being noticed at all (and in fact, being the supposed thing he hated most), to the Department of Mysteries, do being uber super lovely. There's never even any indication of 'off the page' interaction, and so the soul mates nonsense comes as a slap in the face. And hell, even in book seven, she's not his equal...which given just how useless Harry himself proves to be, is quite a feat.

On top of which, her behaviour is always acceptable, even when it flies against everything that Harry is supposed to be. Jealous and petty with Fleur? No problem. Blushing fangirl? S'alright. Clueless to the very end about who Harry really is? Well shucks.

So the problem is, how do you maintian canon, and have any girl, any girl at all, not fall into this trap. In later years, Harry has through one way or another distanced himself from his peers - Ron and Hermione are the only ones he really hangs out with, with guest appearences from Neville and Luna (and GinGin!). He's starting to fathom just how much shit he's in, so the dating game isn't going to work. Before sixth year, it's possible from him to make a hash of things with a girl he doesn't really know - teenage boy after all - but that gap is only a year or two wide, as twelve year old Harry isn't going to be a Casanova.

Which means that you've either got to have canon Harry diverging very early on (and this fails 99% of the time, because writer's with a pairing in mind go apeshit if they haven't gotten the ship sailing by word 600) or else you have to give canon a stiff kick in the nuts and diverge, essentially giving Harry a fresh slate that allows him to begin a partnership with Daphne, Fleur, Romilda, Tonks, or Cho. Because uh... even in alternate universes, those really are your only choices. Really.

I recognize I haven't really expanded on your idea in substance, and for that I apologize. Nothing worse than being the bitch who points out the problems without offering any solutions. My qualm is that your idea skirts too close to the Ginswap. If you're serious about writing a Cho story, I'd be happy to help - hell, I'll beta if you like. Just make sure you put some serious consideration into how your story line progresses, and why Cho is there in the first place. Some of us (Big D, Vash) might be able to get away with the 'she's warm and (possibly) willing' plot device, but for the rest of us slobs, we need to dig a little deeper, eh?

I've read a story with a Hermaphrodite!Blaise...I had to brain bleach myself multiple times afterwards. I can't remember what story it was though. Firefox fucking crashed on me, and I lost it. All I can remember is that Harry is a PI, he and Ron got on the Cannon's team and kicked ass, and Ron and Herman* are married (I think...>.>).

*Note: I don't hate Hermione, persay, I just hate it when the author makes her a domaneering know-it-all. Fucking bookworms.

I really don't know what Hermaphrodite!Blaise is doing in the Harry/Cho-thread  ... so anyway, in order to get it back on topic, here's something that popped up in the section:

The Soulution is Murder » by L0v3ly R0xtar
As one of the top Aurors, Harry has seen many things in his days, yet nothing prepares him for the sadistic killer who is taunting the Aurors with each new victim. A specialist is called in to help Harry solve the disturbing series of crimes... Cho Chang.
    Complete - Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: T - English - Mystery/Romance - Chapters: 7 - Words: 13,933 - Reviews: 0 - Updated: 10-9-08 - Published: 10-9-08

It's not long, and while it's written well, I'm not really sure what to feel about it. The riddles would be fun to puzzle out on one's own, but the story's too short for that ... still, the author must've spend a stupid amount of time making them. Almost feels wasted for a fic as short as this.

But anyway, it killed some time, it was not horrible, and it had Harry and Cho in it.

    Edit:

Btw, Herryk, usually I prefer drawn pictures, but your 3D-thingies were quite good -- I could imagine Cho looking like that.
