Morpheus stops fiddling with the pillbox. "Quests are everywhere, they are all around us, here even in this room. You can see them out your window, or on your television. You feel them when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. They are the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth," he said.

"What truth?" Neo asks.

Morpheus leans forward. "That you are a slave, Neo. That you, like everyone else, was born into bondage— kept inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind."

Outside, the wind rattles a loose pane of glass.

"Unfortunately, no one can be told what a quest is." Morpheus opens the pillbox. "You have to see for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no going back." He lifts a blue pill in his left hand. "You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes."

This is too much. Neo tries to look into Morpheus' eyes, but all he can see is those pills reflected in his glasses. Taking a deep breath, he reaches for Morpheus' right hand when— "Remember," Morpheus interrupts. "That all I am offering is the truth. Nothing more."

Which pill does Neo take?

Neo opens his mouth and swallows the red pill.

"Follow me," Morpheus smiles.

Neo jerks awake at his desk, a feeling like he's just missed a step gripping his stomach. Rubbing the back of his head he glances at his monitor and sees yesterday's news. "Just a dream," he mutters.
